Rank the Test playing nations in order of historical greatness

Place them in order based on not just wins but also periods of domination and levels of superiority etc.

I thought this would be an interesting exercise but then couldn't be bothered to do it......................someone might fancy it.........

Is this just for tests, or for all forms? I'd rank South Africa 4th in tests, but the fact they've only ever won one knockout game in World Cups loses some votes overall.

Surprised to see everyone rank Zimbabwe above Bangladesh when Zimbabwe were alright for a brief period 15-20 years ago as oppose to a brief period now.

Zim could bat a bit when they had an ok team in the late 90s, but they have still only won 11 test matches in their history, their overall results are similar to Bangladesh. Difference is their only away win is against Bangladesh in 2001 and they have never beaten England or Australia.

Zimbabwe gave Ind and Pak a lot of trouble in the 90s.

Not much in it though, and considering how the two countries are now, Bangladesh are going to surpass them quickly.

If it's just tests then Pak has to be above India, overall maybe India's 2 WCs give them an edge.

I think a lot of weight is going to performances in the past. Bangers have been competitive the last 5 years and pretty ****e before that. Zimbos were pretty competitive mid 90s to early 00s. Heck the zimbos beat pakistan at home. Something like that can't be expected of Bangers just now.

To me it's a difference of competitiveness. Bangladesh were absolutely terrible for the most part up until a couple of years ago. Zimbabwe weren't good but they could at least compete. Bangladesh probably need another couple of years of this level to overtake Zimbabwe.

And also they beat Pakistan away from home in a series which is more than Bangladesh have done away from home.
