The gulf in class between these two and the rest of the batsmen is something to behold

yeah, your team could literally have any average joe in positions 2,3 and 5 and it wouldn't make a difference.

Has a team ever relied on it's 6-7-8 more than its top order like this before?

Saffers 90's side. Pollock, McMillan and Richardson were all as good as the top order players. They only had Kallis as a proper class player and he was awful at the start of his career.

ah yeah, fair point. Hansie and Jonty probably lucky they were great captains and fielders respectively. pretty weak 4 and 5

this is gonna be so like that recent windies tour down under where Voges, Usman, and Burns all padded their stats to a ridic degree. A really good opportunity for new batsman to really make a cheap hundred and find their feet at test level... pity 2 of the 3 noobies have already messed up their chance

kind of unfortunate for Ballance that he didn't make his return here instead of the Saffas series

Funnily enough I was thinking the other day that despite these two being undoubtedly our best Batsmen, you haven't seen too many big stands between them recently, one goes early the other does well is generally the thing hence we always seem to be 50 odd for 3.

Refreshing change.

Will Root be a **** and declare to have half an hour at them tonight?

We will probably have enough runs by then

Day night test my arse. Sunnier now than at start of play.

Though do think that it shows how ridiculous the rules are that we stop at 6.30/7.00 with overs to bowl sometimes as it still perfect light.

In the Hollies stand and have genuinely given up trying to see this pink ball out of the hand.

At least I have Mr Blobby leading the Conga

This and the India Sri Lanka series are very concerning to test cricket. The gap is massive and what we are getting is one sided matches where the result is known at the end of the first day's play. :sadwalk:

Hopefully Australia and the Bangers produce more interesting stuff than this.

We were just advised to switch to T20 by the commentators........ Apparently Lyth does know how to hold a bat, while England are playing Tests......

It's really good to see Roach bowling again. Though I'm not sure how to rate him, it's just good to see him bowl!

Did any of the Windies pacers break 140kph today or are they all still remarkably under-powered?

Yeah bit pathetic from them. Thought they had some pace in the side. Very very poor day from Windies, they clearly aren't improving.
