Chris Old: Yorkshire, Warwickshire and England

Biryani Pillow

U19 Vice-Captain
A very good, and skillful, bowler on the quicker side of fast medium. With Mike Hendrick the best of the support bowlers to Willis and Botham in the last 70s for England.

A major problem was a propensity to pick up injuries - Eric Morecambe once observed that "Chris Old is the only man to bowl for England with the aid of a runner!"

Interesting read. Always fascinating what has happened to people when they finish playing cricket professionally, what job they end up doing.

When he was younger apparently he had a genuine yard of pace. My granddad reckon when he first came to Bears he was as quick as anyone going around (in England).

Curious fact about Chris Old - he was the only player in the England squad for both the 1975 and 1979 World Cups. (Some of the 1975 squad - Amiss, Knott, Underwood - might have played in 1979 but none of the WSC cricketers were picked. Similarly, Australia had an entirely new squad in 1979).
