Who is a better cricketer overall- Hashim Amla or AB de Villiers?

It's amazing how no player in a SA team has ever stepped up and won a crunch game for SA... considering we are known for 'choking' and have only won 1 knock out game. Thus all SA players must not be as good as players who have won WC's. Maybe Klusener... but then he choked under pressure?
Remember the only knockout win was due to SL choking.

So which player always stepped up? Can't think of anybody. Sachin played countless numbers of knockout matches, 2 WC finals and 2 champions trophy finals. He flopped in those finals and has a middling record in other knockout matches. The more knockout matches you play, better the chances you can come off good.
Then why is it wrong to say that ABD hasn't been particularly great?

Amla. AB better in white ball obviously, but Amla still gun and he is a tier ahead of AB as a Test batsmen which I weight as much more important.

Amla > AB in tests but not by much

AB > Amla in ODIs by a bit more. AB is the finest ODI batsman I have seen in the last 10 or so years (yes better than Ponting) and his striking is some of the most eye catching of any generation. Amla is sublime but I would not pick him in an all time XI.

AB is also the superior fielder and can keep wicket if necessary. So a more versatile cricketer and close to being the total package.

Gilchrist possibly? Pretty sure he's got a great record in WC finals.
