Team Rankings in 2023 - Prediction & Reflection

Will NZ reach the world number 1 ranking in tests (for the first ever time) at any point in the period?
Smith, Root, Kohli and de Kock are all killed in a freak accident at the WC. In the wake of this tragedy Williamson leads New Zealand to a glorious golden era comparable to Australia under Waugh.

Hard to predict rankings as it has largely to do with cricket schedules. Since, India, Australia and England play the most test cricket, expect India and Australia to be around the top and England around mid tier especially in a Post Anderson/Cook era.
But playing more matches means more opportunities to go both up and down? (unless you are implying the experience gained by playing more).

No I meant in terms of getting favourable schedules. Australia get 6 home test matches per year and expect them to win most of them unless playing South Africa.

India also get around 6+ home test matches every alternate year. Given their invincibility at home, expect them to always have enough in the bank to make up for the potential away losses.

Isn't that just an alternative way of saying that if a team wins everything at home and plays okay-ish away they are close to #1 by Default? While India/Aus do tend to get rows of matches at home - the number of matches is not generally any more than the number of away matches.

Zimbabwe won't be playing Tests and Ireland won't get Test status. Afghanistan get welcomed into the fold, while the West Indies crumbles over the uselessness of CWI. Sri Lanka and Pakistan slump due to poor management, but still stay competitive due to wealth of talent, while Bangladesh assert complete and utter dominance over their now whipping boys New Zealand. BCCI rule the world and so India are number 1 no matter what, and England finally get their **** together, lead by Root and Stokes.

ODIs more or less the same.

Problem is who in their right mind would want to go to Zimbabwe for any reason nowadays?
Umm...Pakistan don't play in Pakistan for extremely obvious reasons.
Zimbabwe could set up a temporary home in South Africa or Namibia as well.
