***Official*** South African Domestic Season 2017/18

Centurion will host the first battle of the 2017/18 cricket season for the Dolphins as they take on the Titans in their opening Sunfoil Series clash from Tuesday, September 19 to Friday, September 22.

Dolphins coach Grant Morgan believes that his side is in a good place going into what will be another long, testing season.

"The guys, as well as the staff, are really excited to get the season underway," Morgan said on Monday.

"We had a solid pre-season and the guys have all met the fitness requirements and I don't think that we left any stone unturned through the winter.

"I know that we wouldn't want to start the season any other way, and to test ourselves against who has been historically the strongest team in the competition is a great way to start the campaign."

With the likes for Senuran Muthusamy, Rob Frylinck and, most recently, Sarel Erwee being involved in playing games up to this last weekend, Morgan is confident that despite Erwee's involvement in the Africa T20 Cup he will be ready for this four-day challenge.

"SJ was in great form for KZN Inland this past weekend and we felt that he is a player that can make the transition from white ball to red ball cricket quite comfortably.

"He mixed up his preparation before the weekend so he will be coming into this week with the right mind-set as well as with some confidence," Morgan added.

The Dolphins will head into the encounter with 14 players to choose from and despite not being able to select Dane Vilas, who is still under contract with Lancashire County Cricket Club in the UK, or injured Daryn Dupavillon and Lwandiswa Zuma.

Morgan, however, feels the squad selected is a strong one.

"We have a good balance in the squad with a long batting line up and good selection of all-rounders to pick from.

"We might only have one full-time Protea in Keshav (Maharaj) in the squad and Andile (Phehlukwayo) on the fringes; they are both looking forward to representing the Dolphins and hoping to impress the new national coach and the selectors.

"The Titans have a number of national players who could be looking to the test series against Bangladesh.

"With that said, they will be really focused on this clash and we know that they are going to be saying the right things in the dressing room.

"With good weather forecast for the next four days we just need to assess the conditions and make sure that we get the best eleven players on the field," said Morgan
Dolphins squad:

Cody Chetty, Rabian Engelbrecht, Sarel Erwee, Rob Frylinck, Keshav Maharaj, Sibonelo Makhanya, Senuran Muthusamy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Calvin Savage, Mthokozisi Shezi, Prenelan Subrayen, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Morné van Wyk, Khaya Zondo (c).

Grant Morgan (Head Coach), Imraan Khan (Assistant Coach), Nicholas Moffitt (Trainer), Anderson Ndovela (Team Manager).

Good start for Markram. Batting with Faf now.

Hash & Bavuma in for Cobras. Olivier got the 2 wickets and to be honest with no de Lange the rest of the attack is toothless. Amazing how those 2 took all the wickets to bowl them to the championship.

Good solid start bu the Waarriors against a decent attack. Considering the big 3 Kolpak players aren't there. Moore needs to convert starts whilst White has a tendency to go all or nothing.

All the stalwarts scoring some runs.... and Markram. I truly wonder if Titans are going to regret making Markram captain. Cook has gotta score some runs.

Yeah sometimes we forget the Lions made Cook captain again for all formats. So someone is going to look stupid. Or Kuhn's injury isn't too serious.

A bit disappointing no Jason Smith for Cobras. Also quota roles don't allow for Galiem to develop and play with theseguys (no disrespect to Mgijima).

Glad Sipamla is getting his Warriors debut. Actually like the Warriors attack.

Dendarii

International Debutant
(no disrespect to Mgijima).
Something I don't understand about Mgijima is that his career averages are as follows.

First Class: Batting 25.32, Bowling 29.28
List A: Batting 16.56, Bowling 20.00
T20: Batting 11.14, Bowling 26.18

If I were to look just at those averages I would have thought that he was a bowler, yet he seems to be picked as a specialist batsman who's only a part-time bowler.

It is odd isn't it. They even gave him player of the season for some odd reason too. Maybe to boost his morale. They going to have an issue when Bavuma leaves and Khomari has to come in too. Plus Moreki was ****e last season.

Obviously they got Thando Ntini to move schools and fast forwarded him into their academy side and I'm starting to think why haven't the Lions pushed Wandile Makwetu more. Wouldn't surprise me if the Cobras are trying to poach him. Seeing as the region is close to my heart I've been looking at their youth sides for the end of the year and there looks to be some really talented players in the 14-17 bracket but obviously not black Africans. Some top talents. About time really. Fallen behind other regions but I suppose we had our lot with P.Kirsten, Lamb, Jefferies, Le Roux, Matthews, Simons,G.Kirsten, Gibbs, Kallis, Adams, Dawson, C.Henderson plus plenty more. Plus Vern more recently.

Also Pieter Malan. Cobras look like they hoping he will step up. He is another who totally dominates provincial and can't step up to franchise. So interesting to see if he does this time but not holding my breath.

Hundreds for Markram and Eddie Moore so far.

Bavuma another 25 (20 or 30)
Amla another 56 (50s & no 100s these days)
Faf going towards a 100

Knights bowled out CObras for 159 with Olivier getting 3 poles but his RPO probably shows too many 4-balls still

Ton for Markram.... Faf heading that way. How the hell did Cobras get bowled out so cheaply, was the pitch doing something?

Yeah Bloem can be the best pitch or like that embarrassing unplayable one these days. Seeing that van Schalkwyk bowls about 123kph it has to be doing something or the pitch is poor or the Cobras were poor and I wouldn't rule out that last one.

Noticed Boucher talking about preparing a pitch for the quicks vs Dolphins because it suits them better than the Dolphins. Think it could be carnage there with QdK to come.

How about White and Moore at the Wanderers though. Lions attack looks ok.

I speak nothing of my Warriors team.... always have hope, always punch above their weight, always lose good players to overseas and other franchises....

Eish Faf out for 96

I once witnessed Kallis get run out on 99 in a first class game for WP
White out for 96 too.

Lets see if QdK is 90s or 100+ today. Or maybe Theunis beats him there.

Mulder with 3 wickets (White, Vallie, Ngoepe) in 4 balls & has all 4 wickets to fall.

Is this Yaseen Vallie the same who played U19 WC few years ago?
There are two of them.

The one above is Mohammed Yaseen Vallie who played in Parnell's u19 WC team that lost the final. A few players from that team still around like P.Malan, JJ Smuts, R.Hendricks, Rossouw, Vandiar, Obus Pienaar (In Ireland & New Zealand these days) etc

Then another Yaseen Valli (without the e) who was in the u19 WC winning team that had Markram, J.Smith, Rabada, C.Bosch (Makhanya/Phahlukwayo on the bench)
