Yet another good article. One minor point: Hobbs only made his home debut in the 1909 series, as he'd played in the 1907-8 series.

Jack Fingleton mentions discussing cricket with Armstrong in "Cricket Crisis": Armstrong was apparently an "in my day" merchant who didn't regard Tate or O'Reilly as anything special - though (despite the comments mentioned in the article) he apparently regarded Larwood as being in the Great Class - and said Trumper, Duff, Gregory and (someone else who Fingleton forgot - Hill, perhaps?) were as good as Bradman.
