Best performance in a losing team?

Stoinis' 3 wickets and 146 made me think about 'What is the best performance in a losing cause?'

Performances that come to mind: Ricky Ponting 164 vs South Africa, Kumar Sangakara 192 vs Australia, Nathan Astle 222 vs England and Mitchell Starc 6/28 against New Zealand.

Warner recently in one of the ODIs in SA when Australia got whitewashed. Singlehandedly kept them in the hunt.

India 5-29 against Pakistan in Chennai 2012. Dhoni walks in and smashes a hundred. WAFG.

In ODIs I honestly don't think there's a performance in a losing side to match Stoinis.

Knocks like Astle's in 2002 shouldn't be considered, no hope situation and whilst we did revive hopes of winning for a brief time, we still lost by 100 runs and were never in it.

Better to mention the ones like Stoinis where his team mates were all spuds and they'd have got wiped if not for him, but instead ended up in a situation where they almost won.

Ricky Ponting v Sri Lanka at Kandy 1999. Scored 96 & 51 in a match where no other Oz bat reached 50 and only one SL bat did.

Allan Border's undefeated 152 at Brisbane v NZ 1985/86 against Richard Hadlee taking 15/123 probably the best batting performance in a side that lost a Test by an innings.

The margin says 100 runs but when that match was happening, it looked like Astle will win the game for the team if he played 10 more overs. Crazy knock and certainly deserves to be consired as it brought the team from a no hope situation to a winning hope situation as you have put it up in the post.

Was going to mention that. Geez we know how to produce ATG performances in a losing team at Eden Park don't we?
Ponting scored 242 against India in a Test match...and they lost that match quite easily too.
And Sangakarra's knock was only stopped by an AT horrible umpiring decision as well. Ruined a great chase and a most unlikely first win for Sri Lanka in Australia too, and world record run chase.
