Yeah that knock by sanga was crazy good.

Australia was only one wicket away from making Pontings last day knock in the third ashes test in 05 qualify too.

Dennis Amiss's double century against Holding, Daniel, Roberts & co at the Oval in 1976 might warrant a mention. Holding took 14 wickets in the match. Amiss had remodelled his batting after being hit on the head by Holding at the beginning of the season. He took a more open stance and his first movement would be back and to the off-side (p221, Fire in Babylon).

Amiss hadn’t played a Test since the previous summer and, upon his recall, had a reputation against fast bowling to restore.

“The double-hundred was so, so special,” he told AOC. “People were talking about me not being able to play fast bowling so to come back against four of the best West Indian cricketers of all time, especially Roberts and Holding, was very special indeed.”

He was the only Englishman to pass 50 in the innings as they were all out for 435. England still lost heavily, but not before Amiss became one of only two batsmen to score a double-century against West Indies between 1976 and 1988.

Damn was going to mention Shane Bond's WC game too.

Shaun Tait in the Australian OD competition final as a young bloke was pretty handy.

Was reading up on Matt Renshaw and possible contact to Matthew Hayden. Haydos' 203 against India in 2001 was a great knock

The margin says 100 runs but when that match was happening, it looked like Astle will win the game for the team if he played 10 more overs. Crazy knock and certainly deserves to be consired as it brought the team from a no hope situation to a winning hope situation as you have put it up in the post.
Yeah fair enough, I watched it live and whilst you thought we had a chance once it got under 100 (with a recognised batsman we shall not name at the other end on one leg) it was still a 100-run win. Plus Astle dropped Thorpe on 4 and he went on to score a double ton of his own, so it was really clawing his way back to square in the match context.

Azhar Ali's double, Shafiq at Brisbane, KW at Brisbane and Kohli at Adelaide all very high quality from recent times in Australia.

Dev Bishoo's 8/49 against Pakistan was a great bowling effort. However it was overshadowed by Azhar Ali's triple hundred.

vaughan v australia in 02/03 was silly. he looked like he was playing a different game to his teammates.

casually pulling gillespie, lee and mcgrath off a good length.

flogging macgill and warne.

never seen an english batsman play so well. especially against a bowling attack of that class.

I think I was incredibly annoyed that Imran didn't get to pick up even one wicket
