Why? There were only two tests and the one England won, they won by 124 runs.
NZ did really well to lose that on the last day tbf. That Lords test should have been saved easily by NZ, pitch wasn't playing up much on day 5.

Seems like there is a "Baz wasn't worth anything to the team" movement that neglects to understand how good our results were under him, and how easily those results could have been much better.

The only failing of the Baz era was the continued selection of Rutherford, Guptill and Bracewell.

Listened to a podcast of Baz being interviewed, mentioned how players and team management were determined by a "NDH" policy during that time, and said that a few people fell foul of it at the time. Was a really good/interesting listen.

I can hardly think of anything more ironic than McCullum presiding over a "no-dickheads" policy.
Maybe in terms of his approach to cricket, but as a professional sportsman I've never heard anything bad about Baz (at least nothing out of the ordinary anyway).

Also it's both kinda funny and sad that we all know which dickhead he's referring to.

Just gave myself an uppercut for pondering for a moment that It might have been Patel he was referring to for his steeping away to leg in SA, before the penny dropped that of course he means BFJ.

Interesting that he referred to support staff in it as well, be interesting to know what the go was there.

Really interesting topic, worth a conversation. Seeming more and more every day like yes Hesson was a well organised, effective coach but if his mate wasn't Brendon McCullum who set standards and instilled belief in the team himself, might not at all have the record he does.

And also worth considering who'd be available? Someone who came packaged with bowling/batting coaches worth a pinch of **** would be good, or someone savvy enough to bypass David White and appoint Shane Bond as a consultant who works with the team when available and on video when not.

That works for the All Blacks but would not be a good policy for NZ cricket as we lack depth. Also, cricket is a much more individual sport. You can be a dickhead and still not effect team morale as much as in a sport where everything is about team work.

As for Hesson. I don't know. Who is gonna replace him anyway?

If we don't atleast compete vs sa ( at this stage a series win seems like a dream) then surely his time is up.

Nah, there's no other sport in the world where you have to spend so much time with your teammates. Forget the actual playing of the sport, you are with your teammates for weeks at a time on tour, for a whole summer during the home time, and sitting next to each other while not even playing the sport for (lets say) half a Test match each time.

David White.

Turned on the telly today and surprised at the small crowd at Chch on a public holiday Monday.

Then it dawned on me it isn't a holiday in Chch, it's Welly anniversary day.

So last week we had a test in Wellington over a normal 2 day weekend.

This week we have a test in Chch over a normal 2 day weekend while people in Wellington and lower north island have a 3 day weekend.

Genius.

Ok, the weather is abymsmal this weekend but they didnt know that.

This is the quality of administration we have.

I think Hesson is more competent than White, would rather the change was made there and see if Hesson can improve (again) if he has capable mgmt providing that edge of decent specialist coaches, A programs, and u19 programs.

And a CEO who values a domestic schedule that delivers in form players in the required formats at the right time for the blackcaps. At the expense of confusing the few hundred citizens who follow Ford Trophy but who's brains apparently can't cope with a competition that is spread out.
