How do you bowl on a flat wicket?

So basically current MCG wicket

No spin, swing or seam movement.. No sign of deterioration even on 4th day. Basically NOTHING for the bowlers!

How the hell are you supposed to get batsmen out ???

The current MCG wicket isn't anywhere near as flat as some have been, 9/443 from a side that has batted very well certainly isn't incredible (9/238 for the rest bar Azhar Ali). Not much in it for spinners though tbf.

To answer the question though, I'd say what Wahab has been doing has been decent. He'd have much better figures if he didn't bowl all the no-balls and had less assured batsmen to bowl at. Plenty of pace, aggression and some reverse swing to go with it. And most importantly you'd need, as with any aspect of cricket, a whole lot of luck.

Subtle variations in line, length and pace. Apart from that ball-keeping becomes very important to bring reverse swing as early as possible.

I'd say use either the Marshall approach where he seamed/swung it both ways or do like Holding, fast and straight wicket to wicket

you have to overpower the wicket and use things that happen before the ball pitches like drift it a load or bowl express pace

Restrict runs, set the field back, bowl cutters, use changes of pace, or just be extremely fast (Starc/Johnson/etc)

I think pace variation and accuracy can be the key. And express pace doesn't really work against experience batsmen if the wicket is really flat. Guys like Kumble can be an asset in such conditions, he can keep trying to outhink the batsmen through subtle variations without compromising on accuracy.

When the pitch is flat you just need to be patient and consistent.

If you don't have Johnson pace, then find the line, length, and field that makes run scoring difficult and stick to it. Throw in the occasional short ball, vary your pace, work on swing etc. In the modern game batsmen generally will get frustrated pretty quickly and start wanting to drive you. When they're driving you're always in the game.

(Note: Sometimes driving actually takes you out of the game, Australian cricketer James Faulkner 'to be dropped from team after drink driving' | Daily Mail Online)

Well McGrath is the perfect example of the best raw attributes for a pace bowler to have

1. Height
2. Superb judge of what length to bowl and repeatedly hitting that length
3. Ability to cut the ball either way
4. Constantly hitting the seam
5. Effort ball which is 5-10kmh quicker than his stock ball.
6. Very decent bowling attack backing you up.
