Team of the Year 2016

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Also, I am starting to come around to the theory that the 3rd seamer is becoming a bit of a specialist role. And this guy is excelling at it. :)

AZHAR ALI — PAKISTAN

950 runs at 45.38 across 10 Tests, two centuries, high score of 302 not out

Azhar’s numbers are somewhat padded out by a triple-century in batting friendly conditions against the West Indies but even when he wasn’t scoring runs, he was doing an outstanding job dulling the new ball. His 14 innings at the top of the order lasted an average of 112.79 deliveries — the most of any opener in the world.
congrats to Dan on writing for fox sports

Happy enough to be a lazy sod and agree with the team picked by Fox. Can see why all were selected and can also why the honourable mentions weren't. Seems a fair enough side to me.

Is this more about number of tests than performances... only reason why I ask is that I`m surprised Abbott has not been mentioned. For me probably been the best bowler performance wise, but only played 3 tests thus excluded? I would probably play Abbott in front of Starc and Wagner.

Shafiq was pretty dire before this last knock and barring one century in England. Plenty of ducks IIRC. No way Kohli should be overlooked for him.

Mud XI 2016 (min 5 Tests)

1. NRD Compton
2. MJ Guptill
3. MN Samuels
4. JM Vince
5. GS Ballance*
6. MR Marsh
7. PM Nevill+
8. RAS Lakmal
9. UT Yadav
10. ST Finn
11. Rahat Ali

12th: HM Nicholls
Chandrika played how many?

Yadav definitely does not deserve to be there, was the third best quick in the recent series after Broad and Shami.

Regardless of how many tests he's played, I think Kamrul deserves a trundle in that side.

He has been too far up the order and Kohli annoys me (I'd probably have Pujara before Kohli).

Chandrika played two tests.

Bowling selection is poor with Yadav and Rahat both putting in mixed years and even Finn doing well in SA before a poor summer.

Matt Henry 7 wickets at 65, Jason Holder 10 wickets at 46 and Shaminda Eranga 5 wickets at 63 a better mud attack.

lol looks to be a list made by someone who has seen a bit of cricket then just cric infod the rest. No De Kock is criminal and no Shah is even worse. SMH.

You surely can't get into a team of the year having played 3 Tests.

There's a lot to be said about Shafiq but dire? The guy has been pushed around the batting order and still managed to score a couple centuries and batted really well in both tests that they won in England and batted pretty well against the Windies too. I wouldn't have him in a team of the year but he is far from dire.

No he wasn't.

You not seen any of Bairstow or Ashwin this year, I'm guessing?
Mate I've seen Bairstow live and I've seen enough of him to know he isn't as good or as natural a keeper as QDK.

As for Shah he should be in there instead of Herath, who did well against woeful Aus and Zimb sides on pitches that were turning even more than Bangladesh. That isn't a slight on him but Shah has been taking wickets away and had a ten for in england and I think 3 5fors, including important contributions to winning tests. I'd much rather a spinner with that pedigree, considering a toty should be good across all surfaces. Herath is the 3rd best spinner around but yes, if you simply cricinfo him, the numbers are remarkable.
