The Aussies play kayfabe in all their interviews, full of 'play hard but fair' and 'we don't cross the line' cliches. All Aussie teams consist of a grumpy captain who spits in his palms, an overweight legspinner, a blond erratic pacer and a tall gangly fast bowlers who says nasty things about your relationship with your captain

The corollary that international sports is a prerequisite for a great deal of domestic interest is not necessarily true.
Major League Baseball and their "World Series" have been going strong for more than a hundred years.
But while I concede that India has Kabbaddi like USA has the World Series, the USA still has the Olympics, and sailing, and golf and even tennis. India has nothing else truly international. Nothing.

Jingoistic nationalism, of the kind found among a lot of Indian and Australian cricket fans, reaches its pinnacle when the rest of the world becomes irrelevant.
Well this is true for AFL, Baseball, Gaelic Football, Kabbaddi and Baseball, all those nations have something else like sailing, soccer, rugby or the Olympics.

India only has cricket at a truly international level.

ONLY.

They have 9 Olympic golds in their entire history. NZ got 8 in LA 1984. Aus got 16 in Sydney 2000. This is over a billion compared to mere millions.

Indian sports fans are desperate for international sports success. Desperate. If cricket isn't international - well, what good is it vs hockey or kabbaddi?

Do you really think the MLB needs to quota Japanese, Canadian or Cuban baseball players like the IPL does? Of course, they don't.

Hazlewood isn't exactly a blonde pacer vs Starc and Cummins even if Smith i spudgy and a leggie.

Did you try pasting an image into a post? In my experience it shows up fine in the preview, then messes up when you post. Safest to save it somewhere then upload

I found an alternative, not as funny, but still makes the point more or less ;)

International Regular
India only has cricket. ONLY.
Internationally, India does much better at chess than it does at cricket. Currently, the men's team is ranked only fifth in the world, but because of the vast number of juniors who have quite suddenly taken to it is huge numbers, it is perceived to be an emerging chess powerhouse.

Arguably, we have also done well at billiards and snooker; but like cricket, those too are not truly international sports.

5th - what colour medal is that?

Noone doubts that millions and millions if not hundreds of millions of Indians are smart as heck.
