It'll be interesting to see where we rate Southee's career in the 200 wicket club when he retires. Could be anywhere from 2nd best to worst. (Hadlee, Martin, Vettori, Cairns)

Edit: Boult 182 is pretty likely to join the club, Wagner 115 a shot too.

Boult's only 18 away from joining him, and in significantly fewer matches, so that'll add even more to the debate.

EDIT: On second thoughts, "significantly fewer" probably isn't a fair description. But what I was meaning was he's on track to have played fewer matches by the time he gets to 200.

Hard to really compare him to Vettori, but out of the 4 seamers, he's a pretty clear 3rd imo.

Yeah he is still only 28 though, I could see him doing enough to be better than Cairns or worse than Martin from here in his career.

At age 28, Hadlee averaged 28, Cairns 32, Martin 35.

I generally have looked at Southee being a bit similar to Anderson, and I've always held out hope that he'll turn it around at his late 20s like Anderson did. Anderson was at 176 @ 32.52 aged 20-27, and then 28+ 291 @ 26.06. I think dismissing a promising still young bowler with a bucket load of international experience is madness.

Lets not tarnish the good name of Ishant by comparing him to a schmuck ****-for-brains like Southee.

Now I'm imagining Southee with Ishant-esque flowing locks. Strange image.
