Players who had a fitting end to their career

Bijed

International Regular
I thought it might be an interesting and even fun exercise to try to come up with as many good examples as possible of players whose last game in a particular format nicely summed up their whole career, be it in a good or bad way. For example:

Shane Watson

Final test

Made a start in each innings but didn't go on in either. Out LBW twice, reviewed each decision unsuccessfully.

Mitchell Johnson

Final test

In his first innings, he picked up one wicket for 150 runs at 5.60 an over; in his second, he struck twice with vicious short balls in a fiery spell before going for 12 off his final over.

Chris Martin

Final test

Didn't score in the first innings, though in fairness he wasn't dismissed either. In the second innings, managed to run himself out before he'd even faced a ball. Bonus points for NZ's tribute to him by being knocked over for 45.

Edit: Just to make the point that I'm not just doing this to mock certain players and will also pick on Englishmen, I'll add:

Brendon McCullum

Final test

Scoring a century in your final test is always a brilliant thing, but smashing the fastest test ton when your team is 30-odd for 3 is something else. Typified McCullum's never-say-die attitude in the most perfect possible way.

Ian Bell

Final test

Needed to stand up and anchor England as they fought hard for a draw, got a 7 ball duck

The examples above are all the end of a player's test career and are also quite recent, but I'd be interested to hear about examples from any time and in any format.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Mark Ramprakash

Made a 9 and a 2, which was a pretty solid contribution for an English middle order bat of that era.

Mark Butcher

Made 5 and 13, see above.

John Crawley

35 and 8, which would almost be enough to at least maintain or improve the averages of most English batsmen of his era. Unlucky to be dropped on that gritty performance.

Curtly Ambrose

Took 4 wickets in his final test at an economy rate of about 1.43; epitomised his final year of cricket in 2000 where he averaged less than 18 in taking 36 wickets, and at an economy rate of 1.68.

Never knew he signed off on quite such a high, getting his 400th wicket in his final series is also pretty special.

Harold Larwood limping off alongside Don Bradman at the SCG in the final Test of the Bodyline series - Lol took 4-98 (including Bradman), scored 98 and then took 1-44 before his foot went - he could barely walk but Jardine wouldn't let him go off until the Don was dismissed

McGrath taking a wicket with his final ever delivery in Test cricket sums up the talented bastard.

Great thread...

Add Richard Hadlee to the list of taking a wicket with their last delivery in Test cricket, including a cheap 5-fer.

TOTAB grinding 42 not out in his last dig to secure a draw away from home. Apt.

Haha, why am I unsurprised to see Burgey bringing AB into the discussion? :D Not that it's unjustified, mind

Hard to beat de Silva's double century in his last Test & a wicket of his last delivery.

Beats Gillespie.

Yep. As far as sporting farewells go, that's up there with Pricey and the Crow leaving after the 86 GF.

Mahela Jayawardene

Scored 4 and 54. Which dropped his average below 50. Summing up that he was good. But just not as good as Sanga. Or just not that great.

New Zealand's Henry Nicholls with a typically disappointing 13 & 26 in his last Test match.

Bracken took three poles, two catches, and got MOTM in his last ever game.

Typically rolled over against Australia too, sadly.
