South Africa team selection

FC scores for Durham starting with most recent :

5, 2
45, 0
64, 0
2, 0

His spot is in serious jeopardy. List A has been better but not amazing.

A few months away from 35. Likeable guy and had his time in the sun but right now Kuhn/Markram just have to get a 100 in the SA 'A' games and they could replace him.

Tour match: Derbyshire v South Africa A at Derby, May 29, 2017 | Cricket Scorecard

I want to keep an eye on the A team as much as anything else, looking forward to their games against the Lions almost as much as the main Test series. Good to see de Bruyn score runs, I forget about him sometimes but another ODI potential.
50-overs team

Smuts
R.Hendricks
De Bruyn
Bavuma
Zondo (c)
Smith
Mosehle (wk)
Magala
Ngidi
Paterson
Shamsi

Kuhn
Markram
Olivier
Dala

4-day team

Markram (c)
Kuhn
De Bruyn
Bavuma
Zondo
Klaasen (wk)
Smith
Piedt
Olivier
Ngidi
Paterson

Second (wk)
Mulder
Dala
B.Hendricks

Certainly being tested after the Kolpaks. Young players like Markram, Smith, Mulder rushed to this level after decentish first full franchise seasons.

Certainly losing players in that 25-32 bracket doesn't help as they've got the experience ie Rossouw, van Zyl, Ackermann, Levi, Ingram, Vilas, Harmer, Abbott, de Lange, Viljoen and just wonder how many would actually be welcomed back to Proteas. Levi, Ingram, Harmer already signed new extended deals.

Also limited overs squad lacking some middle order finishers depth. Probably too many top-order bats.

Reeza playing one of those knocks. Will probably go 6 months without scoring double figures again :D

de Bruyn will be kicking himself he missed out.

Tail very weak so they probably went for experience of Kuhn over Smith in case of a crisis.

Looks like a pitch taking spin with Malan bowling already. Dawson looks like he is strangling Bavuma a bit.

Reeza 2 good knocks now... not convinced Smuts should be playing. I know he earned it but would much rather see Makram getting the experience as I can't see Smuts getting in SA main team.

Agree. Think he is the 6th bowling option though and very handy ?

Kuhn showing he is not out of the picture. Would seriously consider taking both him and Markram for the tests in England.

Dreadfully weak lower order coming up. Mosehle onwards.

Good point on the 6th bowler... but does Markram also not have some handy spin? Looks a very weak lower order...

Good start for Lions. Duckett motoring as he is wont to do, good to see him going ok against a more than decent spinner in Shamsi

Was a top knock by Kuhn.

Not surprised the bowling attack is being taken apart.

Ngidi only seamer with SA potential. Olivier more a 4-day bowler so should only see him with the red cherry.

Paterson, Magala , Dala, B.Hendricks are average.

Next strike-bowlers are Williams, Nortje, Dupavillon, Engelbrecht, Zuma, Pretorius.

Nortje, Zuma, Pretorius not played much franchise cricket.
Never been massive fan of Williams and Engelbrecht. Very erratic and probably better suited to limited overs cricket.
Dupavillon is the one but missed the whole of last season with bizarre injuries.

Good knock from Kuhn... but that batting performance leaves much to be desired. Bowling did not help us much either. Pretty much got hammered in that game... hopefully they start performing.

Could Kuhn be a solution to SA's number 6 problem?

It's not really surprising considering the way the domestic game is going. We used to beat Australia, India, England at 'A' level regularly but that's a thing of the past. Our domestic structure is no longer supporting depth of talent. Got to hope individuals are strong enough to develop themselves.

Heino Kuhn is a nuggety cricketer who likes hitting square and runs quick between the wickets. We thought AB, Faf, JP, Miller, Rossouw were fit beasts then this guy is another level. As a number 6 ? Never in a million years unfortunately. Power isn't his game. Always been a better 4-day player.

Kuhn (33), Markram (23), R.Hendricks (28), de Bruyn (25), Zondo (27), Klaasen (26), Ngidi (21), Olivier (25) are probably only players with Bavuma, Piedt, Shamsi directly in SA thoughts.

In terms of young talent. I know they picked a development squad and an Academy squad but it's mainly to produce POC and it isn't all of the best young players in SA which is a concern. Then there are players like Eddie Moore (decent season), Dominic Hendricks there who have been around the scene but they never going to be future Proteas are they but are in HP squad.
