Slim pickings on batsmen, and a truly ****** tail. A non-fixing Asif and Jimmy would be some opening bowling attack though. Surplus of middling-to-****e spinners like Tredwell, Abdur Razzak, Lokuaracchi, Doherty, Nikita Miller, Johan Botha, Beau Casson etc. Seems to have been a good year for that species of cricketer.

Good batting, lack of quality spin bowlers that year. Lots of all-rounders.

Bit of quality in 1970

Michael Slater
Marvin Attapatu
Justin Langer
Inzamam-ul-Haq
Darren Lehmann
Micheal Bevan
Chris Cairns
Anil Kumble
Courtney Browne (w/k)
Darren Gough
Glenn McGrath

Andy Bichel as the specialist 12th man

along with
Mushtaq Ahmed
Damien Fleming
Chamara Dunusinghe
and Sherwin Campbell as back ups.

Excellent top 6, excellent attack with some handy part timers in Lehmann and Bevo.
**** keepers with Browne shading Dunusinghe. Pissed that the wrong Flower brother was born in 70 or it would be a completely gun side.

Jeez this forum makes me feel young. Only one person who posted a team in this thread is younger than I am.

I know Gough played longer but I'd be tempted to go Brett Schultz instead.

Paul Nixon had a higher FC average than Browne btw

edit: a 1970 2nd XI

1. Sherwin Campbell
2. Grant Flower
3. Matt Horne
4. Neil Johnson
5. Robin Singh
6. John Davison
7. Paul Nixon+
8. Damien Fleming
9. Andy Bichel
10. Mushtaq Ahmed
11. Brett Schultz

Decent bowling year but atrocious batting.

Yeah, nah. Goughy is quality. Bowling at the other end from Pigeon wouldn't have hurt him either.

Deciding to go with Bevo over a fifth bowler was a tougher call.
