My All Time Test and ODI XI

Yeah, my impression was Watson was justifying Jayasuriya & Symonds as sharing 5th bowler duties, not being a 6th or 7th option as cover. In the latter capacity they'd be obviously be handy.
Yeah. If you go for Red Hill's initial selection of Andrew Symonds then a back-up bowler is necessary in-case Symonds starts to 'go for a few'.

I had the following team in mind;

01. Sachin Tendulkar
02. Sanath Jayasuriyah
03. Virat Kohli
04. Viv Richards
05. AB de Villiers
06. Andrew Symonds
07. MS Dhoni
08. Shaun Pollock
09. Wasim Akram
10. Mutiah Muralitharan
11. Glenn McGrath

Mark Waugh is another choice at the top of the order to help Symonds fill-in the 10 overs.

Although realistically, Flintoff is only marginally worse than Symonds (if at all) with the bat and far superior with the ball, so why not play him instead and keep Lara as opener? Or whatever opener tickles your fancy.

Bingo, and then you've got 5 genuinely excellent ODI bowlers, with 6th & 7th back-up if required. Some people forget Flintoff was a fantastic white-ball bowler. Had his yorker on a string.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Shane Watson as an opener/5th bowler shouldnt be forgotten either.

That gave me an idea:

S Tendulkar
S Watson
V Richards
V Kohli
M Dhoni
M Bevan
L Klusener
S Pollock
W Akram
M Muralitharan
G McGrath

6 legit bowling options plus Bevan. Or

S Tendulkar
S Watson
V Richards
V Kohli
M Dhoni
Ab de Villiers
L Klusener
S Pollock
W Akram
M Muralitharan
G McGrath

Still good.

International Captain
Changes frequently but I'll settle on this team:

Hutton
Hobbs
Bradman
Viv
G. Chappell
Sobers
Gilchrist +
Imran
Hadlee
Marshall
Warne

I couldn't care less about ODIs.

Chrish

International Debutant
Barry
Gavaskar
Bradman (c)
SRT
Viv
Sobers
Gilly
Imran
Warne
Marshall
McGrath

Personally prefer seam bowlers over swing bowlers because they perform better in diverse conditions IMO (McGrath, Hadlee, garner, Ambrose). But I don't see any point of having two of them in the same side. So I would go with specialist seamer, primarily swing bowler and Marshall who was jack of all trades. Adds depth and verity to pace attack.

Pretty sure he would do better in the spin attack
