Dilshan retires from international cricket

Noble One

International Vice-Captain
1999-2009: Mat: 152, Runs: 2994, HS: 117*, Av.: 29.06, 100: 1
2009-2016: Mat 177, Runs: 7254, HS: 161*, Av.: 45.91, 100: 21

His record subsequent to becoming a permanent opening batsman is even more ridiculous when you consider how middling his career was over his first decade in international cricket.

Very Jayasuriya-esque.

Better than Jayasuriya with the consistency. Jaya was special because he was murderous when he was in the zone, and single handedly won matches. Dilshan has lesser such ability with bat, but consistent than Jayasuriya. There's no competition with the ball, and equals in the field. Dilshan's keeping ability and Jayasuriya's silent, but superb captaincy are the difference between the players. While Sanath was a shy laid back player during his playing days, Dilshan had bit of a nasty streak in him.

Jaysuriya and Dilshan opening batting for SL in ODIs would be one hell of a proposition for any bowler.

I understand Matthews and co opting to build a team for WC2019 but Dilshan could have at least played till Champions Trophy next summer.

Terrific batsman, especially in ODIs. Wonderful fielder too, his catch to remove Kohli in the WC final was a gem.

Whatever it takes!!!
Great career. Well done.

But it will always be the Marillier scoop, dammit.. :p

Seriously though, really good player and made a difference to his side by his mere presence. It doesn't always get too much better than that. Guy can field anywhere, bowl pretty decent offies, keep to a decent level when required and bat really well when in form. Surely someone who will be tough to replace for the Lankans.

Came into form at just the right team to lift Sri Lanka to a nice peak before Sanga's and Mahela's retirements. Fantastic in ODIs. Think I will remember him more for how much pain his face seemed to display when batting in tests.
