Test cricket

Durban. Trinidad.

How are we supposed to take this sport seriously anymore?

Schedule the tests properly ie not in wet season. If you can't do that then ensure you have good drainage at your ground. If you don't have good drainage them cover the whole ground. If you can't cover the whole ground then you don't get cricket because you are too ****.

This sport is a joke. From the umpires calling lunch at the same time regardless of whether we've missed heaps of play, to Drs being forever poorly implemented, to going off for bad light when it's clearly fine to play to losing two whole tests while the sun shines.

Just embarrassing in 2016.

Given the number of people who have paid to get into these matches I doubt it will be a problem for much longer :(

tarpaulin sheets can't be that expensive surely. super soppers are another story at 40-50k each.

Durban should not get test cricket. They poor crowds and poor drainage + the poor light issue at the ground.

Would rather give durban's tests away to senwes park in north west, fantastic facilities and its not like they could possibly get a lower crowd then Durban does.

Both kingsmead and port of spain should be stripped of international status for this fiasco...

40-50k couple days salary for AB at the IPL isn't it? Hardly asking for a major investment here are we.

When you have people like David White near the controls of the future of Test cricket, you're ****ed.

That's the issue. Without people of real intelligence and foresight controlling the game, it's headed for the graveyard. Then they'll throw their hands up and blame the new generations and their infatuation with T20.

imo this is farcical from the boards, not cricket as a whole

but put the boards under scrutiny because there's no accountability in world cricket

Saw the SA-NZ score at one point and thought **** that's awesomely poised. Seems like no play since. Durban worse than Yorkshire? Remember one Odi against the West Indies where I made the trip over into Mordor in glorious sunshine but they called it off with no play because of a wet outfield.

$50k isn't that much for investment in a test cricket venue. But even so if you don't have that technology then cover the ground.

If the IPL didn't take up two months of the year the India-WI series could have taken place then.

The fact Tests are played to fit in around a joke domestic hit and giggle tournament is the great farce here, though o agree the bad light playing condition and the ability of one side to refuse to use lights and DRS when they're available is ridiculous.

Poor state of grounds isn't often a factor afaik. Durban is a unique set of circumstances where the outfield has just been relaid, and tbph I don't know that WI have the cabbage to throw a lot of dough at state of the art drainage systems at all their grounds.

Depending on how recently the Durban turf was relaid, they may not be able to use a super sopper on it

In that case they maybe should have delayed playing tests there until the ground was ready. Another venue might have been more suitable for this game.

If a ground can't handle 12 hours of overnight rain, it's not fit for cricket.

Whether that's because of poor facilities or unforeseeable bad weather in the preparation phase, either way it's not fit so the venue should have been changed.

It's bloody poor from CSA to not accept responsibility for this.

Every night before going to sleep, I check scores on Cricinfo. First thing after I wake up, I check scores on Cricinfo. Just ruined the excitement the last few days..and I was sooo waiting for Steyn's masterclass on Day 3 :(
