***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2016/17

Slippaah

U19 12th Man

If you're looking for someone to get New Zealand harking back to some good mental manipulation of the opposition in the later stages of an ODI innings, rather than just boorish and crass pot luck, I think Chapman's probably your best prospect to keep tabs on in domestic cricket this year.

Made 1 and 57 in the game below. Freddy Walker, Dane Watson and Jono Boult suggesting it's surprisingly dry and good for spin up at Cobham Oval already.

147/5 | NORTHERN A vs AUCKLAND A
Full time Auckland Uni student and part time cricketer . Finished Uni degree a few days ago according to MySpy from Waiheke and will play full time. Making his way back with club Parnell v a South African/Cornwall attack in Auckland on Saturday - yes de Villiers - son of Fanie - et al.

What sort of selection do you think they will go for the 'A' side ? If we being honest, it hasn't really been an ideal start to the domestic season as the guys supposedly pushing for selection (Raval, Nicholls) haven't nailed it down & then the youth (Young, O'Donnell, McClure) haven't exactly shown they can dominate domestic like some of the tried and tested are doing or have done in past (Rutherford, Broom, Flynn, Fulton).

I reckon you've still got to pick with the future in mind. No point really going to de Grandhomme.
Yeah, the guys performing have been the Woodcocks, the Brooms, Brad Wilson, Greg Hay and Dutchy. I wouldn't like to see any of those guys in the A side, because they're not the present or future of our Test side. I don't mind someone of that ilk being picked to provide leadership and stability for the younger guys but none of those particularly fit the bill. If we're short on decent candidates (which we sorta are) then those guys can slot in.

I'd go Raval Rutherford Murdoch Nicholls Anderson Neesham Seifert Astle Ferguson Bennett Wagner/Patel/insert bowler (should be Kugg, but it isn't).

New Zealand A: Jeet Raval (Auckland), Dean Brownlie (Northern Districts), Henry Nicholls (Canterbury, captain), Will Young (Central Districts), Bharat Popli (Northern Districts), Colin de Grandhomme (Auckland), Tom Blundell (Wellington), Todd Astle (Canterbury), Ed Nuttall (Canterbury), Lockie Ferguson (Auckland), Jacob Duffy (Otago). Twelfth man: Shawn Hicks (Auckland).

Duffy, I reckon he's over rated. Still young though. Rhance is delivering a lot more as a swing bowler. Hicks? Where's that come from? Has done SFA. De Grandhomme.. Oh god. One innings and he's back in the fold. Other than that, all good.

Surprisingly good team. Horribly out of form, though.

But glad that didn't sway the selections.

Those are the guys I'm interested in seeing play at Int A level. Although CdG is the odd one out, no promising seam bowling 6s?

Actually, would have like to have seen B Smith, even if not opening, so replacing CdG. But then no one else in top 6 bowls except Raval's occasional leagies. Don't want that kind of workload stress on your nation's 3 supposedly most promising seamers.

Anderson could have played rather than CDG. He'll most likely be on the bench behind Neesham for the first test anyway. He needs game time, he's looked rusty as ****.

Brownlie had a pretty **** 2015/16 season so he's lucky to be there. Still, I'd rather it be him than someone like Brad Wilson.

Interesting that Brownlie is still making these A sides. IIRC he's picked up a lot of single-digit scores in recent times and a lot of his dismissals have not looked great (like the bowled last round).

Also
Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Colin Munro and George Worker were not considered due to injury

Agreed on Duffy. Looked good very early on then got injured/remodelled action (unsure which one) and came back horrendous. Slowly working his way back but I'd sooner have seen his spot go to Bennett who is probably closer to the top level. Spose Bennett hasn't had much cricket.

Hicksy is a specialist 12th I would say? Chapman back in to Auckland, Hicks not required so carries drinks to not deny anyone a FC match by carrying drinks?

Brownlie over Rutherford is an interesting one. Both had crap 2015/16s, at least Rutherford has posted a score this season. Obviously they feel Brownlie is closer. And given Ben Smith's 2015/16 he might've been a bit stiff to miss out too. As was Murdoch, although Nicholls/Young/Popli probably reasonably deserved. Blundell outscored Seifert last year so that's a fair pick.

Brownlie got a ton in the first game, too.

I ****ing knew they would pick him over Seifert with pizza boy Larsen running the show, what a joke.
 When I saw Howsie was the latest poster, I didn't even need to click on it to know what the content was.

Blundell's record in FC cricket is superior to Seifert's in every way. And he is seen as the better out and out gloveman as well.

Heh, yes Howsie mad.

Plenty of time for Seifert though - 21 and only just starting to put runs up in FC and still hasn't in domestic limited overs.

Seifert support isn't something I'm willing to go hard at Howsie over just yet because I think he might end up being right.

Could easily be right. Blundell doesn't seem to have the raw talent (though moves feet nicely to spin as has been pointed out on this forum) so I hope he's a hard worker like Watling. Would have thought Seifert and other young attacking keepers (Phillips?) would target the NZ ODI and T20 sides first, test side second. Seifert doesn't even have a domestic limited overs 50 yet though.

Seiffert has been a complete flop at senior level until the last 5 minutes, when he moved from flop to passable.

Would be a hugely wrong signal to reward that with an A series.

Looking forward to him fulfilling his obvious potential.

Because he's played a lot more first class cricket. Seifert is five years younger and has a lot more going for him, number one being talent. He's right up there with Brendon McCullum afaic. This would've been the perfect game to give Seifert some exposure against a proper attack, although in saying that he has already scored a ton against Pakistan before....
