Indians are fav's--Admits Imran KHan

Pak have too many all-rounders
IMRAN KHAN

[ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 2004 12:46:47 AM ]

If I had to pick a favourite for the One-day series between India and Pakistan , I would pick the former. Batsmen win One-day matches and India 's batting at this moment is far stronger than Pakistan 's. Looking at the Pakistan team chosen for the One-dayers, the weak link is clearly the batting.

There are some players with potential like Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed, but this line-up is clearly short on experience and this might be crucial because you need experience behind you to handle the pressure of an India-Pakistan series.

I am also worried that there is one all-rounder too many in the squad. I'm a great believer in specialists, and have always felt that a team does not need more than one all-rounder. Moreover, my definition of an all-rounder is a player who commands his place because of his calibre in one department, and the-se players are yet to do that.

Our trump card is certainly our bowling and the Shoaib-Sami-Shabbir trio makes for a pretty potent and well-rounded pace attack. There is also Abdur Razzaq, so I think we have a high-calibre attack. My only worry is injury, since all the fast bowlers have an unhappy knack of breaking down mid-series, thanks largely to the workload that modern cricket calendars place on them. However, the selectors have got a couple of reserves as well to cover for injuries.

As far as the batting goes, the Indians are pretty formidable, particularly after acquitting themselves so well in Australia . The only preparation the Indian batsmen need to make is mental. Pressure is going to be pretty intense right through the series, and their fans must be hoping that they don't crumble at crucial times like they did during the Tri-series in Australia

I hardly think that he can say anything other than that India are favourites. That said, I think it will be a tight series.

Who cares whether India is favoured to win or not. It's the performance which matters. Before every series i see one person or the other saying India is favourite to win it but it hardly materialises :!(

Actually what Imran was saying that Pakistan is relying on too many allrounders rather than specialist players therefore they are the weaker unit. The article wasn'tr exactly about who was fav and who wasn't .

if u read the complete article .....imran says that the indians are favs to win the odi series because batsmen win you odi's
and pakistan will win the tests because the paksitan bowling is stronger and it is bowling that wins u test matches

trust that (thing) agarajajajjajaaja to only post parts of the article

the guy agarajajajajaja has no crdibility whatsoever

and if pakistan can win the test series ....i dont really care what happens in the odi's(actually i do care.....pakistan will win them both)

tests are more important

As long as you are winning them, the moment you start losing them the whole game of Cricket itself becomes less important and all at a Sudden Hockey becomes more important.

Rubbish, test cricket is the better fomat of the game and will always be more important.

Hellraiser,i don't think Pak can win the test series, especially if they lose the ODI series. Inzi will come in under sooooooo much pressure from Pak public that he won't be able to lead the test team with high spirits.

Who decides ? If you ask me both are equally important. I have watched countless Test matches in 80s which used to end up draw after 5 days (add one mode day for Rest day).

ODIs are the one which have kept Test cricket alive today and made the game more interesting. I think we should thank the Australians and ODIs for making TEST cricket more interesting.

Ask any test cricketer, even ODI cricketer that aren't choosen to play Test cricket and they will tell you which form of the game is the real one.

To say that ODI has kept cricket alive is stupid and idiotic.

I don't agree with you here. Even in cricket crazy countries like India,Pak ,etc,. the people watching Tests has decreased rapidly. Didn't you see the Ind-NZ series, in Mohali there was no tickets for youngsters while only Rs 10 for some other stands (Just the cost of 300 ml coke :O ) but hardly any more than 4,000 came to see. So one day cricket is indeed keeping the game alive. Even one day cricket is too long and so now a days 20 over cricket is being started.
