SA squad announced, Phehlukwayo has been picked.

Squad: AB de Villiers (capt), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dale Steyn.

Overall, decent squad I think. Hopefully Dwaine Pretorius gets a call-up soon, but overall pretty solid I think.

EDIT: Above is the squad to play Aus, squad vs Ireland has Bavuma and Pretorius.

Proteas squad to play Ireland: AB de Villiers (Titans, capt), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), Quinton de Kock (Titans), JP Duminy (Cape Cobras), Faf du Plessis (Titans), David Miller (Knights), Chris Morris (Titans), Wayne Parnell (Cape Cobras), Aaron Phangiso (Highveld Lions), Andile Phehlukwayo (Dolphins), Dwaine Pretorius (Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (Highveld Lions).

I assume Morkel is still injured... otherwise that would be very unfortunate. Notice its Bavuma in for Amla and Pretorius in for Steyn. in the Ireland squad... like that rotation.

CSA said Morkel and Rossouw are both injured apparently.

Saffas to post 450 in one of these games imo. What a rubbish seam attack we're sending over.

Apparently except for Starc (who I assume is being rested for series in Aus) the rest of the Aus bowlers are injured...

Yeah, only Starc + Haze are being rested. But even still, we've picked a stack of red ball specialists. Joe Mennie averages >40 in List A cricket. Daniel Worrall has only played 12 games. Chris Tremain couldn't make the Victorian team for the Matador last season. Scott Boland hasn't exactly made himself look brilliant in his 10 ODIs to date.

Hastings, Richardson, Sandhu, Holland, Faulkner, Maxwell. That's the attack we should be running imo.

Now watch one of the selected guys tear up, much like Mitchell Johnson after my "pick Cutting, Butterworth or Copeland ahead of him ffs" rant ahead of Brisbane 2013.

Tremain bounded up the Vics' pecking order by the end of the year; was more of a timing of the one day tournament thing than anything else.

Don't see how Sandhu should be ahead of Boland after the last twelve months either.

Sandhu strikes me as the cricket version of Nick Kyrgios. Not just because he looks like him but that he seems like the kind of guy that doesn't give a **** and puts in about 30% effort most of the time and still does ok.

Did CA just forget Paris,Berhendorff,Richardson (as much as I hate him) and Tye exist?Tbf wouldn't be wrong at all to assume that Paris and Dorff are currently on the treatment table.
On Sandhu,a huge fan,but that Big Bash 2016 must go down as one of the worst t20 tournament performances for a cricketer.

South African fans, what sort of combination would you want? Same as the New Zealand series or would you prefer a 5 man attack? This I believe will be a major selection dilemma for South Africa in this series in the post Kallis era. 3 pacers with Piedt runs the risk of a repeat of the 2012 series where if Australia go after Piedt and take him out, and fingers spinners do get taken apart in Australia, no matter how well the other 3 pacers bowl, it will be a tough ask. On the other hand, I am not sure if the current SA team think tank will necessarily want a long tail of Steyn, Piedt, Morkel, Rabada as you 8-11 with Philander as your number 7.

Was their issue in Eng series as well, hence Morris playing and to be fair to him doing a decent job.

I think they will go with the same composition as when they played NZ... Elgar and AB to replace van Zyl and Faf/Duminy, Elgar can bowl a few as well....
However I would not mind them playing 6 batsmen with Philander at 7 on the the flatter Aus wickets, possibly QDK playing as opener or dropping both Faf and Duminy. Couple of possibilities there. Rabada has some talent with the bat; Steyn and Piedt can hold up an end if needed to get some lower order runs. Outside chance of Parnell playing instead of Morkel if they are really worried about the batting but need an extra bowler.

Hard to fit all of Elgar, Cook, Faf, AB, Steyn and de Kock in the quota though. And Faf makes the most sense to drop as there's no real other alternative to open. Unless AB/de Kock wants to do it again :p
