CW's greatest ODI team of all time

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
Bit of discussion around this on different levels at the moment, so though we could do something along these lines:

Select your 3 greatest ODI XIs of all time. Your 1st XI, 2nd XI and 3rd XI.

Anyone selected in your first XI will receive 3 votes at the end. 2nd XI players will receive 2 and 3rd XI players will receive 1 vote. At the end we'll tally and present a balanced XI, based on the votes plus discussion as required.

* please keep in mind that your XIs need five bowlers, plus a keeper.

Tend to think that two quality bowling allrounders at No.7 and No.8 is stronger overall than having a specialist batsman at No.7 and 2 part-time bowlers.

The normal awards that everyone else has
How good an all rounder SWaugh was in ODIs early in his career has been forgotten a bit. Was a noted death bowler.

The normal awards that everyone else has
1st XI

Sachin Tendulkar
Shane Watson
Ricky Ponting
Viv Richards
AB DeVilliers
Andrew Symonds
MS Dhoni +
Wasim Akram
Joel Garner
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath

I'm basing this as an 1st XI I think is most likely to win, rather than picking the out and out best specialists. Having Watson and Symonds in the top 6 and also sharing the fifth bowling duties gives me heaps of leeway to select the best fielders available. Ponting, Richards, DeVilliers and Symonds will form a potent inner circle fielding combo. Dhoni at 7 and Wasim at 8 give the batting ample depth, and the thought of McGrath and Garner opening the bowling is tantalising. Tendulkar at the top provides the glue, and Watson, Ponting, Richards, DeVilliers and Symonds are a brutal middle order.

2nd XI

Adam Gilchrist +
Hashim Amla
Dean Jones
Virat Kohli
Brian Lara
Mike Hussey
Kapil Dev
Shane Warne
Brett Lee
Allan Donald
Waqar Younis

3rd XI

Mark Waugh
Sanath Jayasuriya
Kumar Sangakkara +
Zaheer Abbas
Javed Miandad
Michael Bevan
Andrew Flintoff
Lance Klusener
Dan Vettori

Absolutely :) You have probably seen me asserting that before. Greenidge IMO is second best ODI opener after Tendulkar, ahead of not just Haynes but also Anwar, Hyaden, Ganguly, M. Waugh etc.

He's a great player, but it should be noted I'd just had an argument with my Indian friend at work prior to choosing the sides, so I didn't give Dhoni or Kohli or any Indian much favoritism during my selections.

edit: 1st XI may raise a few eyebrows, but would beat pretty much any other in an actual match IMO.

Warne got into 1st XI over Hogg because I needed a good captain

unlucky to miss out: Gillespie, Kohli, Warner, Amla, Sehwag, Mitchell Johnson, Waqar

Dhoni as captain. I've always thought he would be a GOAT captain if he had a couple of ATG bowlers to work with. Gilchrist to keep as he would be the best to keep against the pacemen. My line up has some big, big hitters.
