No, no, no. I think you'll find none of them get a contract. Tait and Rofe not having a hope? Tait especially??!! Mate, get the bongwater out of your eyes and ears.

    20. Bichel
    21. Love
    22. Maher/Hussey
    23. Bevan
    24. Haddin/Seccombe - I think they will have one of the 2 keepers on the contract list, but I'm buggered if I know which one.
    25. Tait/Nicholson/Watson - line ball here, but judging on last year where they retained Watson despite his injury, he'd be the frontrunner.

Your never know - Murray Goodwin is my smokey. Elliott and Hodge would have a chance too.

The reason I don't like the idea of a second contracted keeper is that they simply won't play much. Hardly at all, even if Gilchrist is asking for a bit of rest time. The contracted players should actually have a reasonable chance of playing some games for Australia.

I don't see why a player should be given a $100,000+ contract if it is blatantly obvious they will hardly get a game.

They would have a chance of playing for Australia if Gilchrist was injured. We have back up bowlers & back up batsman on the list, why can't we have back up keepers? Hell...there's even back up all-rounders.

By your theory we should only contract about 18 players who will consistenly play for Australia.

The color of immortality, nature and envy - you are truly a unique person. While clearly the color of nature, you also symbolize rebirth, fertility and hope in the world. On the other side of the spectrum, a natural aptitude to money with green coming to signify money and possibly even *********!

    Hmm....it'll be interesting
I beleive the way they actually pick them is select their 25 best ODI players & award them points (25 points for number 1 , 1 point for number 25) & vice versa for tests.
Then they pick the 25 best players for contracts (giving a bit of slack to get a balance between keepers/batsman/bowlers/allrounders).
I just read that in an article somewhere.
Now assuming thats what they do then I think it'll look something like this-(note this is what I think they'll do...not what Id do)

    ODI allocation-
    1.R.T.Ponting (25 points)
    2.A.C.Gilchrist(24 points)
    3.G.D.McGrath(23 points)
    4.M.L.Hayden(22 points)
    5.J.N.Gillespie(21 points)
    6.B.Lee(20 points)
    7.M.G.Bevan(19 points)
    8.D.S.Lehmann(18 points)
    9.A.Symonds(17 points)
    10.D.R.Martyn(16 points)
    11.M.J.Clarke(15 points)
    12.G.B.Hogg(14 points)
    13.N.W.Bracken(13 points)
    14.I.J.Harvey(12 points)
    15.B.A.Williams(11 points)
    16.S.M.Katich(10 points)
    17.M.S.Kasprowics(9 points)
    18.B.J.Haddin(8 points)
    19.A.J.Bichel(7 points)
    20.N.M.Hauritz(6 points)
    21.M.E.K.Hussey(5 points)
    22.S.R.Watson(4 points)
    23.J.P.Maher(3 points)
    24.D.G.Wright(2 points)
    25.B.J.Hodge(1 point)
    Just missing out-
North , Cleary , Dave Hussey & Tait

    Test allocation-
    1.R.T.Ponting(25 points)
    2.M.L.Hayden(24 points)
    3.G.D.McGrath(23 points)
    4.A.C.Gilchrist(22 points)
    5.J.N.Gillespie(21 points)
    6.J.L.Langer(20 points)
    7.S.K.Warne(19 points)
    8.D.S.Lehmann(18 points)
    9.D.R.Martyn(17 points)
    10.S.M.Katich(16 points)
    11.B.Lee(15 points)
    12.S.C.G.MacGill(14 points)
    13.M.Kasprowics(13 points)
    14.M.L.Love(12 points)
    15.B.A.Williams(11 points)
    16.A.Symonds(10 points)
    17.A.J.Bichel(9 points)
    18.M.J.Clarke(8 points)
    19.M.E.K.Hussey(7 points)
    20.W.Seccombe(6 points)
    21.M.J.North(5 points)
    22.N.W.Bracken(4 points)
    23.S.Tait(3 points)
    24.B.Hodge(2 points)
    25.S.R.Watson(1 point)

    Just missing out -
Cleary , Hogg , Hussey jnr , Elliott

So that leave it as -
    1.Ponting(50)
    2.Hayden(46)
    3.McGrath(46)
    4.Gilchrist(46)
    5.Gillespie(42)
    6.Lehmann(36)
    7.Lee(35)
    8.Martyn(33)
    9.Symonds(27)
    10.Katich(26)
    11.Clarke(23)
    12.Kasprowics(22)
    13.Williams(22)
    14.Langer(20)
    15.Bevan(19)
    16.Warne(19)
    17.Bracken(17)
    18.Bichel(16)
    19.MacGill(14)
    20.Hogg(14)
    21.Harvey(12)
    22.Hussey(12)
    23.Love(12)
    24.Haddin(8)
    25.Hauriz(6)

    Seccombe(6)
    Watson(5)
    North(5)
    Hodge(3)
    Tait(3)
    Wright(2)

I think that'd be a pretty fair contract list in the end.

It's their list and they are entitled to their opinion, who are you to have a go at them for who's on their list? You've stated your opinion, leave it at that.

I think Love, Bichel and Maher will miss out persoanly.

Bichel will be replaced by kaspa and Maher by Hussey or North.

Hodge will have a big chance as well.

Tait wont be added to the squad just yet IMO but he is not far away.

Secombe will probably get in over Haddin but it's a close call given Gilly is only really going to miss ODI's and Haddin is better for ODI's.

I'm not flogging my opinion on people. I simply said that it hasn't happened in the past and why should it happen now? Sure a backup keeper will be used at some point but they've not been contracted for it.

I know you were just stateing your opinion, but do you have to be so heavy handed about it?

Tait and Rofe are far too inconsistant. (especially Tait). Tait is too young and too wayward for my liking. There is much more chance of Haddin or Seccombe playing than a bowler that is basically 8 or 9th in line. Threrefore, I think the keeper should be given the contract.

I dont care what you you wrote earlier! Just ebcuase you say it doesnt mean I believe in it!

And for soem reason I left out Clarke. So Ive decided to drop either Love or Maher from that list, but I cant decide which one so:

    OUT OF LIST:

    Maher
    Love

    IN LIST:

    Maher / Love
    Clarke

Sorry, wasn't meant to be heavy-handed when I was thinking about it.

    No hard feelings, eh?

I think that this being the case, players who often don't play, they might do well to think about cutting down the number of contracts.

To be honest I think that one of Bichel and Bracken has to stay, and IMO if Bichel goes, Bracken goes.

Really, I find it far more likely for Bichel to play then Bracken.

Tait's not doing himself any harm. 4/52 off 18 against WA, who's batting lineup is nothing short of brilliant.

    Meuleman, Hussey, Rogers, Goodwin.

    Yeah, I'd take them.

taits in for mine and Watsons out. Watson doesnt deserve one cause hes a bit on the inconsistent/crap player side. Tait is an extremely good player who has far more talent than Watson. If i remember correctly Tait outscored Watson in an Australia a match against Zimbabwe when the pressure was on. Tait has far more chance of being an allrounder than Watson
