Stats don't really matter

Dawood Ahmad

U19 Vice-Captain
How can a few numbers describe the long and complex part of life a cricketer, known as career.

Stats have no importance in front of realities.

Because of the misconception that stats are everything, people still rate bradman above the greatest batsmen, even when they have never watched him batting.

Even conditional statements like "Australia won the match" don't have that much importance in determining the greatness of someone.
It is possible that in a match b/w A and B teams, A played better but B won. While rating players, The derivations of such statements contain a large number of presumptions.

Stats can help but just looking at summary career statistics rarely provides any value.

snickers: you're not you when you're hungry
A precise and sharp look at the two statements, will not find any contradiction between them.

Probabilities are more universal than definitions - that is a general rule.

My first statement
"His stats are a reflection of what he does"
Was concerned with the phenomenon of probability - and for finding probabilities, you have to be very open minded.

While the first post of the thread deals with definite things, and definitions are always limited.

To.conclude,
Stats have no importance in front of realities.
But when stats are depicting the realities then it is different. So the real thing is the realities, not the stats
So, can I ask you,
How can you compare a probability with a definition?

Your public wants a poem to express your point - or just a poem on anything really Dawood. Please construct one forthwith.

Pratters

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Statistics are like mini skirts, they conceal more than they reveal, as Sidhu would say.

Stats don't really matter when it comes to Aravinda..Sanga might have all the numbers but Aravinda was a beautiful player to watch....

Here is a broken poem. Tried my best to argue. Wrote one after a year.

All that glitter,
Is not stats
But facts are bitter
Than hot stats

The Cricket's dad (1)
Bradman
Who's very bad
Has million fan

Not that he deserved,
To be conserved
But stats served
And realities curved

The truth, they hide
Like indian bride
Has never prevailed
Has been jailed (2)

They take the fame and burn that,
And the real fame, they earn that

1. Father of Cricket
2. Like an indian bride hides the truth, truth has been jailed
