Watto to retire from international cricket

Kirkut

International Regular
Top player, handled the void left by Matthew Hayden for a brief period of time very well.

Sad to see him go. One of the better things in cricket in the last decade. Will miss you Watto.

Shady Slim

International Coach
farewell watto, you will always be the best cricketer-shaped-like-a-brick-wall this generation

nah seriously though being a shane watson fan means now once you all start realising how valuable he was our cause will gain traction

International Coach
2007 To 2011 88 matches 3452 runs @ 47.28 SR 94.54
86 wickets @ 28.50 Econ 4.98

That has to be the greatest extended stretch for an ODI all rounder ever? Incredible numbers.

Only caveat it's worth adding from those numbers is his bowling workload was around half a full stint per game so raises the issues of doing both at the same time. Still impressive but not being treated as a frontline bowler as such.

Biryani Pillow

U19 Vice-Captain
I shall miss his uncanny ability, having being given out LBW, to call for a revue and watch the ball hit half way up middle

It almost became automatic.

Unreal input from an opener who is also a gun bowler. Especially when he's been able to share the 5th bowler duties with someone else batting top 6. Has given Australian in ODIs a lot of options.

It would be a bit better if his best 3 series with the bat in that time weren't made up of one against Bangladesh, one when he batted in the lower order and one where he opened but didn't bowl at all.
