I didn't think he was particularly good the first time around, so IMO it's a step backwards.

he had very little to work with tbf.

"Dan, Iain, keep being the reliable bowlers. For god's sake Tom are you an aggressive swing bowler or defensive line and length bowler this week? Tim stop playing around on plane flights and get your bowling average below 40. Jimmy...yeah ok actually looking at what just came out you might be a better batsman after all. Daryl, try not to fix any games people care about and domestic bowlers, please raise your hand if you're not a wicket to wicket medium pacer? Who's that over there? Andy and Hamish? You bowl 140kph? Congratulations have a test cap!"

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
The article I read in the ODT (I think it was the ODT) seemed to indicate he'd be an interim coach until a long term option is found.

But yeah massive step backwards. Can't we just somehow keep Bond on the payroll? Even better, lure Donald back.

Yeah, don't think that's likely. Have a feeling that Donald always viewed the NZ gig as a stepping stone on the way to being the bowling coach of SA. Can't see anything luring him back now.

We kidnap Richie McCaw's missus and use the ransom to pay his wage.

I don't understand with Bond why they simply don't ask him to be the off season coach and specialist center coach; build a high performance center in his home town for bowlers, find other guys locally with great bowling knowledge and use it as an academy and touch up point. That way they get whatever he was doing well to get the bowlers working better with their actions, can still lean on him for bowling plans and therefore don't require their new bowling coach to be as good at working on technique/action and really just be a gameplan guy.

I originally read this without all of the above conversation, then saw "Donald and McCaw" and immediately thought you were lobbying for Beaver to get involved somehow.

Its a great plan if NZC have the money for it...

Not much (or anything at all) on Jurgensen's track record to get me excited but like its already been mentioned above, he's a short term prospect so that's a positive. But who knows, he might do well. Only time will tell. Feel so spoiled by having Donald and Bond as the last coaches so anything a rung below seems like a downgrade now. Although tbf this guy and Dimitri are obviously rungS below.
