RIP Jack Bannister

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Sad loss - an excellent journalist and broadcaster not to mention the man who gave talkSPORT's cricket coverage credibility - could play a bit too back in the day

Sad news this Jack was a very good commentator he called the game has he saw it and he never had any bias towards one team, which in a commentator you very rarely get now in these days Rip Jack.

Except Warwickshire - could hardly keep the glee out of his commentaries when they were winning everything in the mid 90s. To quote (approximately) from one book:

"Who are the best opening pair of bowlers in cricket in the mid 90s?
a) Ambrose and Walsh
b) Donald and Pollock
c) Munton and Small

If you answered (c), you're probably Jack Bannister"

When not commentating on Warwicks, I thought he was fine.

RIP.

Commentated a lot in South Africa in the 1990s and thought he was very knowledgeable about the game. Was one of the voices of cricket for me growing up.

Fondest memory of him was claiming he would eat the paper if SA won the 1995/1996 test series vs england at home. Ofc we ended up winning that, not sure if jack really did eat the paper thought.

^ Yeah he did eat the paper, live on TV.

Banister eats paper
Yup, I remember watching it. He was a good sport about it. They even let him have some salad dressing to make it more palatable.
