Not exactly going to be a great help for all the players who are in the ODI side...

I guess we will have Voges, Nevill, Hazlewood, Lyon and potentially both Marsh brothers playing in the Shield game. I would like to see Mitch play for WA, especially if we are going to persist with him at 6 in the Test team. It does make it difficult to work out who would replace him in the ODIs though, as we definitely need that extra bowling option in the top 6 with Maxwell so I kind of expect Shaun to play for WA while Mitch Marsh plays the ODIs.

Warner and Smith you'd expect will play the ODIs and I wouldn't be surprised to see Khawaja make the squad too. That leaves Burns, Siddle, Bird and Sayers playing State Cricket in Australia and potentially Pattinson, although he might earn a recall similar to Usman and play in one or two of the matches.

All of this seems a bit of a challenging preparation for what will be a difficult series away from home.

I don't really care about the lack of a warm up game tbh. We've never had one for a NZ tour since I've been following cricket. The only reason it's funny is cause of how much NZ posters on here were complaining about only getting 2 or 3 short warm ups when they toured Aus

Seems like Australian tours of NZ from now on (if and when they're supposed to happen) are just going to be squeezed in wherever there's some sort of window. In 2010 it was just 2 tests to avoid the clash with the IPL, this time 'cause the World T20 is upon us. Warmup matches be damned.

When Faulkner was at 6 and Wade at 7 the other day it just felt like our batting lineup was short to me. I agree that Watto is the logical choice.. a farewell tour of NZ is what we all want from young Shane.

Well they need a seam bowling allrounder in the team unless they are playing in the SC so that automatically rules Maxwell out. Don't mind Forkers but I would probably stick with Marsh for a while cos I think he has a much higher ceiling than Forkers with the bat.

Would probably go with six specialist bats in NZ though if it turns out to be a green seamer

He's an accurate medium-fast bowler, swings it both ways but doesn't hoop it, gets good movement off the seam when conditions suit too. Not that long ago he was absolutely cleaning up in Adelaide grade cricket and not getting a game for SA because they didn't think he could translate his skills to First Class cricket, so it's funny how things work out. I suspect he's been picked because the selectors have stereotyped NZ conditions instead of actually watching cricket there, but he's a probably the best available bowler anyway, after the other guys picked. Right selection for the wrong reason.

Hilfenhaus bowled outswingers from the hand. Sayers doesn't swing it as much, but swings it later and can bowl innies as well. Same sort of pace* and style other than that, though.

EDIT: Actually, Hilf was probably a bit quicker in his prime.
