Don't think Aust bowled that badly tbh. You just not suppose to dance down the pitch and loft quick bowlers inside out in the first morning of a test match on a seaming pitch. Well you could try of course but you are not suppose to get away with it. This is I'm sure what Smith and the bowlers were thinking as well that he would eventually nick one them but instead he just kept nailing them from the middle and the edges just kept going in to the gaps so it was just one of those days. Only fault was the Pattinson no ball but i would not say that was a ball that deserved a wicket and BMac could've been the unlucky party there

First hour tommo morning is absolutely critical. If these two can get through that the pitch would get better and the batting will become easy but a couple of early wickets and NZ could be eyeing a sizable lead.

If Burns and Khawaja get through the first half hour or so tomorrow, Smith's got to fancy himself to get in and make a big score.

Yeah the pitch is good to bat on especially once the shine is off. There is a bit of assistance for the quicks but its no green mamba. Just needs to be a bit patient in the first hour and you can reap rewards later

Unortunately a nights rest means that southee and Boult will be fresh to squander the 20 over old ball this morning before handin over the 30 over old ruined cherry to their teammates.

Thrilled for McCullum. I was only able to follow the second session on the radio (though have seen all the highlights now) and was amazed how the boundaries just kept happening ball after ball, over after over. A truly memorable moment in NZ cricket history.

Impressed too with Anderson's innings - he's never played like that in a test before and it seems the better option to suit his game. This should prove to himself that he can play at this level - would love to see him kick on from this.

Sounds like the bowlers could have bowled better with the new ball. Could be a good day for batting today so early wickets needed.

"DUDE Boult dismissed Khawaja once this way so lets replay his dismissal last match non-stop for two days as if its the only way its possible to get him out"
