No South African bowler as #1. When last did that happen?

Jadeja no. 6 test bowler . . . puts the deservedness of Ashwin's no. 1 ranking under doubt. Playing as a spinner regularly on the pitches India have been dishing and anyone would dominate.

    Steyn, Broad et al unlucky

IIRC started the year with AB and Smith got it after Kingston and it went to Root after Leed's only to Smith to take it back in the next test. Then Root got it back after the first two games in UAE before it going back to Smith after the Perth ton. Williamson had it for a game before Smith rightfully claiming it

Like how all the batsmen have been unlucky to not have batted in Australia?

    lol no

Scores in Australia have been pretty standard. The Perth Test being the only one where batsman dominated to an unusual degree.

reckon it will stay that way for years to come. I can't imagine any of those big 3 dropping off significantly.

Works both ways, ace. If you believe any spinner could dominate on the 'torrid' Indian pitches, then AB and Amla had to bat on those same pitches. Thereby they are 'unlucky' that Smith got ahead of them when he's been batting on much easier pitches.

Surely you gotta accept that batting in Australia of late has been easier than pretty much anywhere else in the world.

Cook definitely had a better year than his ranking suggests. Amla coasting on his previous points.

Vijay, Chandimal, Voges the best of the rest.

Kohli, Rahane, Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Kayes all had a good year, despite the first two struggling in India.

Rogers had a great season before retiring.

Watling was probably the best keeper bat, though Sarfraz runs him close.

Hoping the next year will be a good one for Pujara
