Hadlee a better cricketer than Botham but Botham a better all-rounder than Hadlee. Does that even make sense? Does in my head.

Noble vs Greig a tough one.

Hadlee just isn't an all rounder. As a cricketer you could argue that his vastly superior bowling outweighs his inferior batting. But then as a cricketer you could say the same about Glenn McGrath even though he can't bat to save his granny.

yeah but breaking it down with numbers, McGrath and Hadlee are pretty damn close in bowling quality, where as McGrath's batting is way ****ter

10 and 10 for bowling, 5 and 2 for batting? With Hadlee being the 5 obviously.

And then you have botham who is maybe an 8 and an 8 in both categories(pulled that number out of my ass obviously). Hadlee/Botham is closer than you think as Hadlee was a better bowler and it's not like Botham is in an elite class of batsman despite some memorable innings

2 test tons and 15 test fifties should be enough to qualify as an all-rounder tbh, even if his role and expectations with the bat were different to Botham's

Hadlee was a decent lower order batsman, but that wasn't really the point. I was agreeing with the point about there being a difference between being the better cricketer or the better all rounder.

yeah but shouldnt you take into account their ability within each discipline?

good batsman and a great batsman(botham)

a great bowler and an ATG bowler(hadlee)

so they are equal as all-rounders then?
