Been a fine player. Always great to watch because you never knew what you would get on any given day. It's what made him so compelling.

Here's the best Johnson article ever written, albeit from 2010-11

His spell at Centurion last year was my favourite ever by a pure fast bowler. Gutted it's not on youtube anymore :(

Ah well. In 2013/14 Johnson produced the most freakish and frightening run of form that I've ever seen by any fast bowler. It was seriously scary stuff, and for 4 ridiculous months almost singlehandedly made Australia the best test side in the world. That sort of occasional brilliance also served to make his **** performances all the more hilarious. Great bloke too. Will genuinely miss him.

Dat ball to du Plessis at Centurion deserves to be on every porn site imaginable.

The timing of this is consistent with the inconsistency that he has shown through his career.

The next test, the first day/night with a pink ball, with possibility of the ball swinging and Johnson possibly being difficult to sight during the twilight period.
The team planning for the summer would have had Johnson and Starc as the key bowlers in that test.
Then a series of games against a weak WI team.
The advertising for the summer has featured Johnson.

But
He has given us that glorious purple patch of fearsome fast bowling which will live in cricket's history.

When we are old men and the young folk are saying that the bowlers of the past could not have been as quick as those of the current day, we will say we saw Mitchell Johnson.

Well done Mitch and thanks

Kudos also for taking the decision out of the selectors' hands. Seen far too many guys who have lost it trying to hang on.

Maybe one last burst of awesome this arvo for old times eh Mitch?

The youtubes will be very kind to him over the coming years. The best of his bowling and batting are made for highlight reels.

I've never loved hearing him talk, but it will be great to see him smiling and relaxed in the days to come. I genuinely nice guy who will be better for the weight that will drop from his shoulders.

Johnson is a test purist so he might not be interested in playing in that day/night match with the pink ball.

Was so entertaining to watch, be it good or bad. Probably the most compelling Aussie player to watch both bat and bowl since Warne retired, because there was always something happening. Whether it was a comical duck or smoking the ball downtown; going at 6 rpo or taking seven for sfa. It was always fun watching him
