Sheffield Shield Fantasy Comp 2015/16 - Merged Thread

This seemed to work well for the Matador, so why not the Shield.

Rules
- Squads of 13 players
- 1 player minimum from each state
- You must pick your XI for the round before the toss of the first game has been done. If you don't make a change you get the team you picked in the round before.
- After the mid season break (for the big bash) there will be a trade/release round where the person currently in last place gets first choice while the team in first place gets last pick.
- 8 hour time limit for bidding (Since round 1 starts in just 10 days)
- You must pick a reasonable mix of bats and bowlers.

Scoring

Batting
Each Run Scored 1 Point
Duck -10 Points
Strike Rate 80+ (min score 25) 10 Points

Bowling
Each Wicket Taken 25 Points
Innings bowling average 20 or under 10 points (min. 5 overs)*
Bowling economy rate 4 or above -10 (min. 5 overs, bowling average must be above 30)

Example
Bowler A = 0/100 (24) = -10 points
Peter Siddle 5/27 (5) = 135 points
Bowler C 5/120 (26) = 125 points
Bowler D 1/118 (50) = 25 points
Bowler E 3/55 (11) = 85 points
Bowler F 3/62 (26) = 75 points
Bowler G 3/91 (16) = 65 points
Bowler H 3/115 (55) = 75 points

Fielding
Per Catch 10 Points
Per WK Catch 8 Points
Per Run Out 10 Points
Per Stumping 10 Points

If we can get 12 participants I was thinking we'd have two groups of 6 with the team who wins each group playing against each other in the Shield Final - So If Group A's leader scorer scores say 3000 points overall and Group B's scored 2800 - group A's winner would get first pick in the Shield Final draft.. (does that make sense).

BTW, is the bowling economy rate and batting strike rate seem reasonable? I just made them up but not sure how much I want to be rewarding someone like Xavier Doherty taking 0/41 from 17 overs.

I'd rather not have it included at all for Shield games tbh.

I'd be more worried about 5/120 counting exactly the same as 5/27. Maybe start subtracting points when a bowler concedes a lot of runs? Maybe even make wickets count for 50 and each run conceded count for -1 or something.

I'll go if there's a spot. Very interested in this shield season

Hmm.. I'll think about it Prince as I see your point. I don't want someone taking 2/2 be worth the same as someone making 98 though..

Perhaps a point could be deducted for every 5 runs you conceed?

Bowler A = 0/100 = -20 points
Peter Siddle 5/27 = 120 points
Bowler C 5/120 = 96 points
Bowler D 1/118 = 2 points

You could make the bowling sr rather than rr? That's the more important figure in 4 day. Similarly run rate is less important than balls faced I reckon. A dude making a quick fire 30 shouldn't get more points than a guy who guts out a 40 over two hours and sees off the shine.

Maybe 0.1pts per ball faced for batsmen (10 pts for 100 balls) for batsmen (min 50 balls, max 25 pts) and say an inverse sr (wickets * 100/overs) for bowlers (3 fer in 30 overs = 10 pts) (5pts min, max 25pts)

Yeah making the bonus points for bowling strike rate rather than economy rate kind of solves both the problems we're talking about tbh.

I reckon cap the negative points at -10 per innings. A batsman can't go below -10 if he makes a first baller, so why should a bowler be allowed to drop to -20 because he conceded 0/100 on a road?

one sec..

How about:

Batting
Each Run Scored 1 Point
Duck -10 Points
Strike Rate 80+ (min score 25) 10 Points

Bowling
Each Wicket Taken 25 Points
Innings bowling average 20 or under 10 points (min. 5 overs)*
Bowling economy rate 4 or above -10 (min. 5 overs, bowling average must be above 30)

Example
Bowler A = 0/100 (24) = -10 points
Peter Siddle 5/27 (5) = 135 points
Bowler C 5/120 (26) = 125 points
Bowler D 1/118 (50) = 25 points
Bowler E 3/55 (11) = 85 points
Bowler F 3/62 (26) = 75 points
Bowler G 3/91 (16) = 65 points
Bowler H 3/115 (55) = 75 points

Fielding
Per Catch 10 Points
Per WK Catch 8 Points
Per Run Out 10 Points
Per Stumping 10 Points

Does that look okay? I know it rewards bowlers for taking 5fa many, but the idea of the game IS to pick bowlers who can take wickets and bats who can make runs.. NOt sure if E should be rewarded more so compared to F??
