9. Craig McDermott o - 1
10. JJ Ferris o - 3

Pretty happy with this team. Was confused with 2 other lefty who played well as well but finally decided to go with classy Vaughan who played well against a very strong Aussie team at high pressure situations as well.

Anyhoo my pick is Allan Steel, a man who at the time of his last international had the best Test batting record in the world and still managed to take 789 first class wickets at 15

1. Conrad Hunte
2. Bill Brown
3. Zaheer Abbas
4. Mohammed Yousuf
5. Ross Taylor
6. Allan Steel
7. Gilbert Jessop
8. Bob Taylor
9. Johnny Briggs
10. Stuart Broad
11. Bill Bowes

Pretty happy with that. Accomplished top five, batting down to 10, five matchwinning bowlers, top class gloveman.
The first leg spinner - don't really understand why none of the usual sources make reference to that

6 centuries and 7 fifties at an average of 44 against the Windies during the 1980s isn't too bad at all. Plus one of only a handful of Indian batsman to average close to 50 in England - Dilip Vengsarkar.

01. John Edrich
02. Bert Sutcliffe
03. Jimmy Amarnath
04. Aravinda de Silva
05. Dilip Vengsarkar
06. John R Reid*
07. Ian Healy +
08. Mitchell Johnson
09. Johnny Wardle
10. Darren Gough
11. Shoaib Akhtar

Was considering Jack Fingleton for being the first dude to score 4 tons in 4 consecutive tests, and Ijaz Ahmed for scoring a bunch of tons against Warne/McGrath, but I like Cullinan here to beef up the attack. Was pretty miserable against Pak and Australia, but only played 12 matches total against them anyway. Very, very solid against everyone else.

Michael Slater
Alec Stewart (+)
Darryl Cullinan
Douglas Jardine (*)
Mohammed Azharuddin
Warwrick Armstrong (4)
Shahid Afridi (6)
Trent Boult (2)
Damian Fleming (3)
Mohamamd Asif (1)
Alf Valentine (5)

Solid batting right up until Shahid, who had a pretty decent test record with the bat compared to other forms. One exceptional quickie in Asif, two talents in Phlegm and Boult, and 2 decent spinners. Armstrong to bring in good hustle and good all round performances. Jardine to captain as he's shown himself to be a shrewd man. Stewart is doing the thing the England coaches didn't like him doing, keeping and opening at the same time! But England's winning record in the 90s doesn't help their case for it being a good decision. I'm happy with this team

Remarkable really just how many fine players there have been - the other three I was agonising over for my last choice were Frank Foster, Basil D'Oliveira and Majid Khan - there must be plenty more - if others could chip in perhaps we could also put in a team of unpicked for the voting thread?

This was one of the most amazing draft we have played in recent times and it literally flew. Thanks for this draft Red Hill.
