Cricket Australia apparently made $300m in the season and the top players like Warner, Clarke made over $5m each (including endorsements). Isn't this too much? Sure, we want cricketers to be well paid so it attracts the best talent rather than going into other sports, but paying players obscene amounts of money could head the sport into the direction of soccer in the UK. The PL is full of overpaid retards. Also, ore of the money should be used to pay state cricketers better. I know you want the gap between national and state contracts to be sizeable as this will encourage state cricketers to try to attain a national contract, which should mean greater competition in state cricket, but it would be good if the first class cricketers are looked after better even though much of the money is brought in due to the national team. Sometimes, good state cricketers can be overlooked because there are minimum number of places up for grabs at national level, bias of national selectors and so on. For example, New South Wales has traditionally had a very strong bias in players getting selected for national honours.
Also, the greed needs to be stopped. Australia will be playing tests against NZ and WI this summer, however, the one dayers will be against India. I think as many as seven of them. This series against India is purely borne out of greed. The series will sell for a lot of money in terms of TV rights to cover the series in India.
Just notice how frequent the Ashes series have become. Again, it's out of greed, and also partly to accommodate the recent World Cup. But too much Ashes so close together will dilute interest. People need an appreciable gap between series to make them anticipate it.
