So now vote for THREE middle order players in the Team of the 1990's. Qualification is 3000 runs in the middle order as a batsman, the qualification here is slightly more stringent as there are generally more middle order options than openers and I don't want to weigh you down with lots of options. Wicket-keepers excluded. Other option is still acceptable, but please state who you want to vote for if you do select this.

The 3 is probably gonna be obvious, but meh.

Well tbf, since we lack a quality all rounder from the 90s (unless we clutch at straws and count Kallis who played 32 tests during this period), we could have Steve Waugh play at 6, and have someone like Inzi, Aravinda, or Mark Waugh at 5.

Why is Andy Flower not included? Is it because he will be part of wicket-keeper poll? I think in 90s, he was the fourth best batsman after the three I voted for in this poll.

Yeah it was because he was a keeper. Unfortunately he didn't qualify there so he's kinda screwed here.

He'll make the "6th spot" poll if you want to vote for him there.

OK, cool.

Also looks like he wasn't as flash in 90s. Picked up in early 2000s

Arjuna Ranatunga, Graeme Hick, and Saleem Malik

are the 3 who shouldn't have been included in this poll.

Martin Crowe was probably the 4th best batsman of the 90s but had to retire due to injury. I'd rather pick 4 middle order players (Lara, Sachin, Crowe, Waugh) especially as Waugh was a world-class allrounder (bowling quite a lot) at the time - prob 2nd only to Brian MacMillan among allrounders, and Sachin was handy.

Nah Crowe was mainly an 80s player...he played too few in the 90s

Dravid> Inzi in the 90s even though he played fewer matches.

Anyway, this is Lara-Tendulkar-Waugh. Let's move on.

I know but that was due to injury - retired at 33. He is only a couple of years older than Steve Waugh and was probably the best batsman in the world before Lara got all those daddy 100s. Crowe mastered Wasim and Waqar and bottle tops in Pakistan in the early 90s.

Think if another specialist bat is to be selected in the line-up, it should be between Aravinda and Mark Waugh. Flower and Inzi weren't that flash in the 90s, and it feels wrong to pick Kallis and Dravid.

3. Brian Lara
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5.
6. Steve Waugh

These batsman are more or less locked-in, with Steve Waugh being good enough with the ball to be the 5th bowler.

Originally favoured Aravinda for the No.5 spot, but now unsure whether that Andy Flower should get a go or not. Specialist batsman of course.

Junior seems a decent choice there. Second highest amount of hundreds in the 90s after Tendulkar.

How was Flower not flash in the 90s? His two best years were probably after 2000, but he was still pretty awesome before that anyway.

I'd go De Silva as well for awesome strokeplay and because his stats are actually quite good, behind only the big 3.

Flower needs to get in this team somehow. Don't **** this up guys. I loved Aravinda, but Flower is mandatory. Flower at 6,Healy with the gloves at 7 imo.
