BT Sport to show Ashes in 2017-18

Actually of course, there are two different issues - their commentary team for the Ashes and their commentary team for the other series (that nobody will watch). I can't see any reason why they won't just take the Channel 9 feed for the rest.
It's not like Sky don't do exactly this anyway.

BT's rugby coverage was met with a lot of skepticism but is now head and shoulders above Sky. Optimistic about this myself

So Boycott, KP, Swann, Clarke and Vaughan all apparently possibilities to commentate on BT Sport. Will be interesting to listen to, anyway.

Actually given it's Australian series they're covering wouldn't there be some more Australian commentators?

I just find this thread depressing. When the Cricket is no longer on the BBC (free to air) you just know that civilisation has been taken over by the barbarians and infidels.

Bound to get Warne and Nicholas off 9 for the series too. Deep joy.

Except for the odd highlights package here and there, it's not been on the BBC for about 15 years.

The BBC coverage was terrible when other sports were on at the same time. When Gooch reached his triple century at Lords in 1990 the BBC were off horse racing.

Channel 4 did the same as well. Tests were moved to 10:30 starts so as not to interfere with Hollyoaks and the afternoon sessions at the weekend would be interrupted to go and watch horseracing.

We'd all love it to be FTA but the money sloshing around especially being a genuine competitor to Sky means it would be very hard for the ECB to not take the dosh.

They should be getting some t20 on FTA as a matter of priority though.

Priorotising hollyoaks would be fair enough, but it was actually because of The Simpsons

Apparently more people watched the BBC Bitesized Ashes thing (didn't know it existed) than all of the live coverage

at least channel 4 moved the cricket coverage to e4 or one of their other channels when they showed the horses. the bbc just completely pulled the plug.

Didn't 4 miss Jimmy's first wicket?
