Paul Horton

Would like to wish Lancashire's Paul Horton all the very best following his release by the county. Not a great player (though a fabulous slip fielder) but a great trier, Loved playing for Lancs and played many a valuable innings. Sydney born and raised but a true Englishman. Good luck Paul.

Surprised he's been allowed to leave, its not been a strong area of the team for many a year, and he's possibly been the most (only?) consistent performer we've had opening.

Noticed we've given Haseeb Hameed a debut today. Guessing Giles is looking to blood more and more young players as part of our vision for the future - would be well served having a player like Horton to guide them though.

Wow from sometime captain to released in a year. Had some good times but never really kicked on from immense early promise. Iirc he once averaged about 45 and was talked about in England terms. Recent years more characterised by Lancs regular rubbish Fc starts and being continually picked for LO games when clearly not up to it.

Wish him the best, hopefully that means we are all in on Hameed

Also heard it might not be as simple as we didn't offer him a contract - he didn't get chosen as captain when Smith and the Croft got the nod and apparently wasn't to happy, we weren't prepared to pay him at the level he had been getting paid. Wasn't abysmal in the CC this year tbf

Stuart Law said (about 6 years ago) that he was ready to step up and play for England, never thought he was up to that but then again could he have done worse than Adam Lyth?

We're hardly flush with reliable top order batsmen - I fear letting him go might prove to be a mistake come this time next year when we're staring relegation in the face again and he's scored steadily for Leicester/Derby/Northants

Would be perfect signing for any of those counties FF mentions. Decent solid dependable county pro over the years.

Would be too good to drop down to Minor County level.
