Was Jimmy Adam's test career unfairly stopped early?

So whatever, take away his captaincy after the 5-0 whitewash in 2000, even though Australia's team back then could have whitewashed most teams on their home turf. But was it really necessary to drop him completely? Was his batting that shot? Were there that many good enough middle order bats waiting in the wings?

He did suffer that horrible injury in England in 1995 - must have been a factor, because he never looked quite the same player afterwards

Yeah, he was a shot player after that. After the injury his average was half what it was before and his career average was in terminal decline.
