Do you honestly think the team needs 7 bowlers though. The original point is correct, Kallis' bowling in this particular team doesn't carry much value. As a 5th bowler he's outstanding. But you've got 5 specialist bowlers and Sobers there anyway. If you think Kallis is a better batsman than Lara/Tendulkar/Ponting anyway, then fine, but otherwise it doesn't make much sense in not selecting a better batsman.

Yes mate. I very honestly think that Kallis was as good as others if not better. He was given a particular task/role to hold the innings together for a huge period of his career which he did quite well.

Lara and Ponting were stunning attacking players but I already have Haydos and Richards in my playing XI so Kallis adds stability and can be the ideal partner for Sobers and Gilchrist. No?

Not sure how Tendulkar doesn't offer stability. He's every bit as solid as Kallis and punishes more bad deliveries. He's the perfect middle-order batsman, way ahead of Kallis. Lara too is hardly an Afridi style hit or miss hack. One of the handful of true genius batsman in history.

Even though I haven't selected him myself, how do you all think old WG Grace would fare against the modern bowlers?

A few more questions; what kind of surface would the teams be playing on? Modern pitches, or the uncovered pitches of old?

And would the old time players (plus a few of the modern players) be equipped with modern style bats, pads & helmets?
