hmmm i love english cricket in the 90s, hick, athers, stewart and the rest. id actually love to that particular choice teja, but do you think it would get interest from others?
Willing to run it as well but after the Ashes. A lot of people who'd be interested in participating are camping in the Ashes subbie right now.

I love Shakib but uh, I just feel people are voting for him because they like him and think he's underrated or whatever. Not necessarily because he's better than Kapil or Mankad or a pure batsman in his place.

Yeah about Vinoo's batting, his average slips to 25.53 if you exclude the following minnow bashing of NZ at home in India. No disrespect to New Zealand fans, but NZ had not won a single test match ever when Mankad went Bradman on them in 1955/56.

Yup. Fair, apart from some ATG knocks against Eng/Aus, his batting wasn't amazing.

His bowling record is great though.

32's striking at 90's. I honestly think Sanath Jayasuriya, Musthaq Mohammad and Shakib Al Hasan bring more to the table than Vinoo does given Murali is in the team, even if Vinoo is a better bowler than the aforementioned batting allrounders. I think there may be some tribute voting to Bangladesh to get one player in there in a weighing of a split decision between say Shakib or Younis Khan, but I think people are underrating Shakib if they think he has not earned the right through his on field performances to get votes ahead of Vinoo and Kapil for this team. Kapil's a fourth opening bowler, and this is not the 1980s West Indies because Murali is already in the side.

I'd personally be less inclined to complain that Shakib is leading this poll, than question why Mushtaq has no votes at all, and that Sanath Jayasuriya was not even put up for polling, but each to their own. But I am an unashamed fan of Shakib, even more so in ODI cricket.

You need to give reasons so that people can understand your position instead of talking like a character actor's portrayal of a stereotypical obnoxious person from USA entertainment media.
Jayasuriya is a worse all rounder than both Vinoo and Shakib. And don't even think about getting the SR in, because it is not relevant.

Anyone really think Shakib will add more value to the side than VVS or Younis? And don't give the "I don't wanna see Sanga bat at 7" reason, because it doesn't matter

I've explained my position fair enough. I love Shakib and I think he's deserving to be considered at Kapil, Mankad etc's level. I don't think people are voting for him because of that though. They're doing the typical "I love him and I think he's underrated so I'll vote for him even though I don't actually think he's the best option" thing. Would've been similar if I'd voted for Laxman in the other poll, for example.

exactly. was planning on voting for inzi or younus but it would have been a wasted vote because they were getting smashed by shakib and kapil

I'm not really a big Shakib fan but I absolutely do think this, yeah. I think Kapil, Mushtaq and Mankad would all be better options than Shakib, but not a specialist batsman.

Vinoo averaged 25 with the bat when his Bradman series against the never won a single test yet NZ is discounted from his performances. That is not a lot of runs. He also averaged more with the ball than the bat. That is the first rule of thumb for an allrounder. That is before discounting any NZ runs. I would also like to be informed why in your opinion that SR is not relevant. Because I find SR to be highly relevant in assessing a bowler's value to a side, that is, how quickly the bowler takes wickets. The other bowlers in a side also benefit from new batsmen to bowl too who will be vulnerable to getting out in their first 20 deliveries.

Imran Khan is the allrounder for this team. So whoever is voted here will bat either 6 or 7 depending on Sangakarra, so all that is needed is a fifth bowler to support Murali, Wasim, Waqar and Imran. Jayasuriya has a batting average of 40 and a bowling average of 34. That is on the right balance for a rule of thumb for a batting allrounder. His SR is 83.5 and his economy is a great 2.46. How was Vinoo's bowling average for the period he bowled? That 32 runs per wicket in the 1950's, how effective was that for the era he played in? I doubt that there is any question at all to be answered that Jayasuriya was a far superior batsmen to Vinoo. How do you feel about Mushtaq Mohammad's credentials?

He bowls better, he bowls spin, and it is an Asian XI, but I take your point here. Loud and clear.

This poll is rather bonkers. Even Shakib's own mother wouldn't place him in an All Time XI.
Why not? To be frank, for his batting position, averaging 40 and with 22 50+ scores, along with taking over 3 wickets a match at just over 30, sounds like ATG material to me. Sadly he's condemned to play a limited number of tests.

Don't see what batting position has to do with batting average.
