Yea popular myth that Gavaskar was a dour batsman. All because of that 36* in that one ODI.

He had a superb defensive game + the ability to tear into quick bowlers. Was just that skillfull. Fast hands fast feet, great timer. Played his shots. Wasn't a one dimensional blocker.

Would like to go back 30 years or so and get one of Dravid's coaches to tell him to open... I'm sure that he would have been just as successful, and that way he could open here allowing me to fit both Younis Khan and Javed into the middle order...

Dravid was pretty successful when he did open. No. 3 is really a half opener anyway because half of the time a wicket will go down relatively early.

IMO. Shakib, Qadir, Kirmani/Bari, Hanif Mohammed and one more batsman (Younis? VVS?) to round off the squad.
