Would appreciate some advice on my final XI as to whether I leave out Ranji, Goddard (opening bat who averaged 26 as a spinner), Smith, Root or Briggs.

Ranjitsinhji/Trevor Goddard (6)
Graeme Smith
Ranjitsinhji/ Root
Sachin Tendulkar
Everton Weekes
AB de Villiers +
Chris Cairns (5)
Richard Hadlee (1)
Johnny Briggs (4)
Jason Gillespie (3)
Alec Bedser (2)

If I do leave out Briggs and move Goddard down to 7 as the specialist spinner, it would possibly be the deepest batting lineup of all-time with Cairns, Hadlee & Gillespie at 8,9 & 10

Nice all-round side mate, I like the balance. Two all-time great bowlers in Lillee and Roberts, an solid opening pair & some would argue the greatest left-handed batsman of all time.

I hope you still agree that Malinga suits the team more so than Lehmann. But yeah, if you did have Boof, it would just add to the insane batting lineup. It is just so hard to imagine this team ever posting a moderate total.

Yeah, and I nearly picked Imran because I was so short of bowling!

Feels kinda weird to say picking Sobers was a gamble, but it was one and thankfully it paid off. Really lucked out in getting Murali and Larwood in the last two rounds.

yeah my only issue with malinga was that I thought he was considered an ODI specialist, but his test record (especially his strikerate) is certainly respectable. so yeah i agree with you

Think it is a very well balanced side... Not Enough Lefties is the only problem I can notice.. Otherwise we have a lovely balance with an ATG opener and another who is a left hander with a good record in all conditions and a guy who scores in weird areas which will disrupt the bowling combination always... At #3 is another ATG, a bit of a stonewalling type of batsman but who will perfectly complement the aggressors batting from Nos. 4 through 7... Macartney was the original Sehwag who always believed in hitting the ball to the boundary and defending only if that was not possible at all... His left arm spin will be a very good additional advantage for the side in conditions where the 5 main bowlers will be stretched. KP, to me, is an ATG or at least a player who has played MANY ATG knocks and he will smash the tired bowling attacks for fun... An ATG allrounder in Beefy Botham at 6 who will bat and bowl entertainingly and be a matchwinner for the side in both departments. Sarfraz is still young in the game but has already shown that he can bat enterprisingly in most conditions and is a very very tidy keeper given the variety of bowlers he will need to keep to in this side. The bowling attack will be led by 3 ATGs = Statham and McGrath with the new ball and Laker as the spinner. They will have the ATG allrounder Botham and Bill Johnston with his left arm fast medium and occasional left arm orthodox spin from both Johnston and Macartney backing them up... Barrington and Katich will provide leg spin of both left arm and right arm variety when needed as well. McGrath and Statham is one of the dream opening bowling combinations and with the great Laker and the rest of the bowling attack to back them up, this is a side that will take 20 wickets in almost all conditions..
