Protest planned for final Ashes Test over state of modern cricket - Telegraph

There is a disconnect here somewhere. Sky's viewership for this series and cricket in general hasn't been too great this year (according to figures from BARB, a TV metrics firm that collates audience figures for the UK TV Industry) but the grounds have been full. The Natwest Blast has been a big success in terms of people at the grounds. Then again, 2 million people tuned into channel 5's highlights of the first day when Australia were rolled out for 60. Why were there 460,000 people (even though figures are for whole day' coverage from start to finish) tunning into Sky's coverage the first day of the Trent Bridge test while almost 2 million for Channel 5. I do wonder if more people are watching via Now TV and Sky Go which BARB is not factoring in. If 2 million tune into the highlights, then surely it suggests a lot of people would have been following the day's play to have been aware of Australia's collapse.

I have a problem with how these 'ratings' are obtained and calculated. This is not necessarily a cricket problem but more a problem with the older model of television channels airing shows, events, matches. The traditional model of watching stuff (TV shows, news, sports) is changing the sooner these channels understand that, the better it is for them. Unfortunately they are still using the old system and using these flawed data to draw conclusions.
