Athlai your Glenn Turner non-rating is still completely stupid. Go to lunch.
His ignoring of the guy with most ODI centuries for us who can send down a few in a pinch a bigger crime IMO.

Turner's SR was 68 btw, which is why I'd be hesitant to include him under current rules; but then if he were playing now he might've adjusted to the rules and requirements of ODI cricket accordingly. He was a real pro, after all.

The team you're looking for:

1. N Astle
2. M Guptill
3. K Williamson
4. M Crowe
5. R Taylor
6. C Cairns
7. B McCullum+
8. RJ Hadlee
9. D Vettori
10. K Mills
11. S Bond

And your 2nd XI is a mess, Athlai, ffs.

1. G Turner
2. S Fleming
3. R Twose
4. S Styris
5. G Elliott
6. C Harris
7. A Parore+
8. J Oram
9. T Southee
10. E Chatfield
11. C Pringle

Why not Lance Cairns - reasonable bowler immense lower order ODI slogger

turner would have adapted. in his day he was known for manipulating the ball around using chip shots over the infield etc. at worst he's our second best ever ODI opener, and he can be the guptill to astle's baz.

Yup, this... Turner was revolutionary in his time for innovation. People shouldn't be fooled by his career SR of 68. A player like Gordon Greenidge, who played in a similar era only for 7-8 years past Turner had a SR of 64.

As loathe as I am to post an XI in any thread with ATG in the title - I Think my favourite team would be this.

Gayle
McCullum
Dean Jones
AB Devilliers (keeper)
Chris Cairns
Afridi
O Donnell
Lance Cairns
Akram
Starc
Garner

My least likely to succeed team would be:

Geoff Marsh
Trevor Franklin
Andrew Jones
Alan Border (was only serviceable at ODIs)
Tom Latham
Anton Devcich
Dipak Patel (terrible ODI batsman)
Ian Smith (his reputation as a big hitter was bigger than his hitting)
Cheetan Sharma
Jade Dernbach
Ewen Chatfield (he would be destroyed - in one game where Gavascar charged him he conceeded 10 an over. He was good against placid batting, but someone like Brendon would annihilate him)
