DoG's Test Innings and Bowling Performances. Updates thread.

I have no idea how your formula worked out that Bhajji's 5-fer at Mumbai in 2004 was his best ever bowling effort. It was not even the best bowling effort in that inning. His efforts in Chennai in 2001 in the first innings esp. were out of this world good... And yet, that is ranked lower?
1. The Australian batting lineup from 2004 was rated higher than 2001.
2. He was defending a very low total in the 4th innings, which will always give value to a bowling performance. If I devalued that then Spofforth's 1882 effort would drop down the table and then there would be question marks over that. You can't please everyone. This is a statistical exercise. It does not take into account how well Harbhajan bowled in each performance.

How about Chandimal's 162* in the 1st Test?

I understand, mate, but just another pointer that even the most comprehensive ranking system can sometimes get things wrong. It is a huge effort and your formula is, to me, at least better than what Wisden or ICC had put out. Cheers. :)

Broad at no. 1 - I agree statistically it was a huge thing to bundle Australia for 60 single-handedly to clinch the Ashes. I have no problem with keeping it at no. 1.

Chandimal at no. 11 - I don't agree personally. It was an exceptional inning no doubt, but it would rank lower if the Indian batting lineup hadn't folded like a house of cards facing Herath in the last innings.

How does Herath's 8-fer rate btw?

Did Chandimal's inclusion knock Fleming's 274* out of the top 15? I may be confusing it, but was almost certain he was up there previously.

Any chance of providing NZ's top 5?

I'm not surprised Chandimal's innings is that high, but it's weird how big a gap there is between Chandimal and Pujara's knocks. The match situation must've given Chandimal's knock a massive boost, but thought the fact that Pujara's knock came in a match where not many people got big scores would count for a lot.

What are the highest ranked innings for <100 runs in your rankings?
Viswanath's 97* against the West Indies in 1975.
4th Test: India v West Indies at Chennai, Jan 11-15, 1975 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo
13.86, which places him just outside the top 100, which is strangely appropriate.

Fleming's 274* vs. Murali in his prime in Colombo in 2003 ...
Sorry I never replied to this query before!

Slight changes. Less value for wins, and no limit on large scores. There was previously a cap on 300 runs. Less value is attached to point-of-entry (e.g. 100/1 vs. 50/5). And the match situation points are now much more compatible. All changes have produced a balanced list which I am satisfied with.

I know that some posters have access to all scorecards and can do calculations much faster than I. If I gave you the calculations for the base rating of performance (i.e. without taking into consideration match/series result, opposition or match situation) then can someone run it through their software so it can spit out a top 100?
