Or are Islamic fundamentalists completely psychotic and that's all there is to it? No rhyme no reason, "we just hate everyone who isn't us so much that we need to kill them".

Yeah, uhh, can we not go down this path? Keep it to the religious discussion thread.

Might as well throw in a complementary tour of Afghanistan, just as safe.

This tour should not happen. Sadly, Pakistan is not safe as a country for foreign teams to come visit. Even if this tour goes off without a hitch (and that's a big if), I fear it will present a false picture of security to both the Pakistanis and any cricketing nation wanting to tour the country. I also don't agree with the push by the PCB and the country at large to get International Cricket back. Right now, there are far bigger (even existential) problems for Pakistan to fix. The return of International Cricket should be problem number 988265489713 on the list.

    Zimbabwe tour to Pakistan suspended

ESPN have just tweeted that 'Zimbabwe Cricket has suspended the tour to Pakistan on the advice of the country's sports regulatory body.' Is the ZC or the PCB? Either way, it's a shame. I'm not 100% up to date with the security situation in Pakistan nowadays, although I thought things had improved significantly since 2009, but it seems not. Bad for both Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

Thanks for the merge, other thread was lost down the list.

Wise decision taken by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board. Pakistan is not a safe country at the moment. It breaks my heart that International cricket can't return to such a cricket-mad country, but there are bigger things to worry about in Pakistan atm.

Wonder if they're responding due to the recent karachi shootings.

Throw in the recent chopper crash and it couldn't come at a worse time.

That's almost certainly the case. Zimbabwe had sent a delegation prior to the attacks to assess the security arrangements and had expressed their general satisfaction. I'm sure the Karachi attack made them reconsider.

Don't think it's safe to tour after the shooting right now. Sad for Pakistan but not much can be done if the situation is this unstable.

Tour on, says PCB; Zimbabwe say not yet | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Zimbabwe's proposed tour of Pakistan witnessed another day of confusing signals from both sides. The PCB twice, in separate statements, asserted unambiguously that the tour was on while ZC insisted through the day that no such decision had been taken.

However, not the backdrop in which cricket should be played. Quite farcical.
