Shakar is so overrated with the bat and considering what Pant done so far for India he got screwed by not getting selected.
The selectors have overrated Shankar with the ball; they do believe that he is an all rounder.
He appears to be a decent batsman, even if he hasn't lived up to his potential yet; but asking him to bowl some meaningful number of overs is madness.

On the evidence so for, as a pure ODI batsman, Shankar, to use standard CricketWeb terminology, is a moderate upgrade over Pant. That means: there is a clear and wide gulf dividing the two.

When Shankar gets under pressure and cant rotate strike he usually plays a rash shot to get out i notice this in ipl.

Agreed; you have been very perceptive.
Still, a better choice than Rayudu, I think: when Rayudu gets under pressure and can't rotate the strike, he just gums up the works.

He's been forced into a role he isn't really suited to. Let Jadhav do the hacky bowling and finishing. Shankar should bat 4 of 5 for reasons mentioned by slippy

If you take out the seamers from the playing XI (Bhuvi, Bumrah, Shami, Ishant), the rest of the country's pace stocks don't seem much better than what they've always been. A depressing thought.

Siraj has done very well on A tours. With time, he should translate that to international level too. Nagarkoti and Mavi are also very promising, just have to maintain their fitness. So, all is not lost I think.

Anyways, the above 4 are all young enough to play for another 5 years and hopefully another good seamer comes up during that time.

Nostrils not bad at home either. It’s a bit much to ask for more than 4-5 test class bowlers for a country that has historically struggled to put 1 on the park.
